Lance Morcan | 3058 comments Coverage of minority viewpoints by mainstream media (MSM) and social media is being steadily eroded whether the subject matter be global pandemics, climate change, the Ukraine war etc. etc..

I imagine we can all think of recent examples of transgressions against free speech. The prevailing attitude seems to be free speech is allowed unless it contradicts or undermines mainstream attitudes or government's narrative.

I experienced this twice in the past week when I was "temporarily suspended" from the popular business forum LinkedIn.com for casting doubt on the efficacy and safety of the new mRNA vaccines, and then banned from a neighbourhood chat site for posting a video showing a climate scientist scoffing at the idea that Man and C02 have anything to do with climate change.

My big frustration is that too few in MSM are prepared to stand up and be counted on issues that count. Editors and reporters are too busy protecting their jobs and pay packets to do what they should be doing, which is to uncover and report the truth.

The solution is to name and shame them where possible until they see the light.

Scott I'm on another forum where a bunch of posts were deleted because the site has a "strong policy regarding misinformation about covid."

Misinformation=information someone doesn't like

Hi Lance,
I'm sure you've heard of the Big Lie that led to the January 6th violent insurrection. Hundreds of people are investigated, and some are already serving sentences.
I am sure you believe in a rule of law. 'Freedom of speech' must not and cannot be against the rule of law.

The big lie is a media created phrase. There were strange occurrences in this election that helped Joe Biden, that is not in question, namely constitutional and state laws being changed in order to allow for certain types of voting mid-vote. If you believe that those same “insurrectionists” and Republican media, and conservatives think tanks should be penalized for freedom of speech that disagrees with the “mainstream” thought proffered by liberal media, then the same rules should have been applied to Jan 6 Committee members like Jaimie Raskin(who vehemently denied 2016 election and called Trump illegitimate), as well as Hillary, Stacy Abrams(both in her loss and Hillary’s). 1st amendment is absolute with the exception of “yelling fire in a theater” rule as it were….democrats recently have fomented violence, including Hillary, Biden, pelosi, etc by calling GOP and followers terrorists, Nazis, etc. the guy running in Ohio vs JD Vance even said Maga needs to be killed! No worries or concern from the supposed mainstream. It’s a two way street. Make no mistake however, freedoms are being eroded in the name of so called security.

B. | 273 comments By the by, I’m an independent because I think all politicians are ge really self absorbed, power hungry elitists, but the msm is very choosy when it comes to calling out folks for things they do all the time…free speech is one of them. When it helps them and they handlers, they love the constitution. When it doesn’t help them they flip out and try to paint the constitution as evil. They think we are stupid. Even Mika On Morning Joe was quoted as saying “we tell the people what to think”. Sad.

Lance Morcan | 3058 comments Seems we are all on the same page here regarding free speech. Protecting it is one of the biggest challenges facing us today. (Bring back JFK).

MSM: Are you listening?

I think Scott sums it up best when he says:
"Misinformation=information someone doesn't like."

message 8: by B. (new)

B. | 273 comments Lance I’m with you! We need to bring some basic civility and decorum along with a heaping dose of common sense back into the political arena. I am a subscriber to J. Krishnamurti’s philosophy which states that anyone in power whether it be politician, media(papers, tv, magazines, movie stars, marketing execs, etc are trying to condition us one way or another. Gaslighting, ad hominem attacks, division are all tactics used to keep us at each other throats for their sick gain. He also said “it is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society”….we have become sick because we allow our ruling elitist class to tell us what’s best for us, including what we can and can’t say for fear of offending people. Ridiculous!

Evelyn Beatrice Hall once wrote as an illustration of Voltaire’s belief’s “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. This is the attitude we need. Stop hating, start talking. Open our eyes and ears to world around us…it’s ok to not agree on everything and just because someone doesn’t like something doesn’t make it hateful or violent.

There is only one truth based on facts.
And again, the simple truth is that Biden won the 2020 presidential by 7-8million votes. Period.
But sadly, people believe lots of lies about politicians. And some believe the Big Lie. Some believe Trump won the 2020 election, which is a LIE.

Carmen Hartono Lance wrote: "Seems we are all on the same page here regarding free speech. Protecting it is one of the biggest challenges facing us today. "

Just to confirm, Lance, I am strongly against spreading lies and calling it "freedom of speech." Too many people are spreading lies and using the lies to call for violence.

B. | 273 comments I don’t believe trump won, but I do think Biden and his team got up to some shady stuff…it’s even been proven that the fbi kept a lid on any damaging info regarding his and hunter’s illegal dealings with China and Ukraine. It’s also proven that information was held at bay by big tech on purpose. Politicians, especially the Biden’s, care only for themselves. They don’t care about you or me-none of them. It’s a ruse. Ask why they don’t want term limits? Ask why they always vote themselves raises. Ask why they keep us in endless wars. Ask why they divide us base on race, sex, and religion. Ask why they spend trillions of dollars on pork and slush. Ask why the never answer a question simply. It is all one giant chess game for them to grab power, enrich themselves and keep you interested enough to go to the polls to keep them in power. This is not what the founders(at least in USA) envisioned.

I don't. Maybe if I did I would be beloved by all and no one would want to kill me.

B. | 273 comments Carmen:

I’ll also ask yourself to be introspective and be honest: who determines truth? You say you won’t spread misinformation and lies in the name of free speech and you think speech should limited…so how do you know…seriously? What is truth? What are lies? Are the democrats always right? They never lie? Seems like a slippery slope for anyone, especially government to tell anyone what is truth. China and every other communist country does just this-how to think, speak, act, eat, dress, etc. all controlled by their truth, not the truth. I for one would rather live in a society where we can speak freely and disagree politely. If I oh say the sky is green and I disagree-is this a lie? Can only tell people there own eyes, ears and brains are wrong for so long before they get angry.

Dear Scott,
I honestly don't know what to say.
If you truly believe someone is trying to kill you, you might want to seek professional help. Anxiety and stress is very serious.

Dear B,
The question of 'What is Truth?' can be traced back 2,000 years to Pontius Pilate and the crucifixion of Christ.
All I can say is that given the choice between truth based on facts or "truth" based on hearsay, I much rather follow the facts. One can go crazy listening to millions of little voices freely stating whatever comes to mind.

But yes I do have severe anxiety from 2+ years of isolation and constant psychological attacks.

Dear Scott,
What evidence do you have that the president even knows you exist? You write like you are a character in the Orwell novel 1984.
Fiction speaks to inner truths, but fiction is not factual.
Likewise, psychological attacks come from the inner psyche. Reality is based on objective facts. So let's begin with facts.

The unvaccinated are a threat.

Trump "supporters" are a threat.

If you're not with him...

These are all things he has said. I am sure video evidence still exists if you would like to look.

message 22: by B. (new)

B. | 273 comments Scott you are correct. He and the entire party have continued to label conservative, GOP and MAGA as “other”…speaking of truth, to your point, it’s very easy for people to look up Biden singling our conservatives as antithetical to freedom. Hillary just was on msm comparing trump supporters to Nazis. Multiple more dem congressmen and women along with the apparatchik media have done the same. It’s so easy to view yet people will tell you that you are crazy. It’s gaslighting 101. Btw, modern politicians have nothing to do with Christianity, as even Biden and pelosi stand counter to just about every Christian/Catholic value. We are living in Orwellian times, just turn on the tv and you can get your 5 minutes of hate any time of day or night. It’s now regularly scheduled and on tap!

Dear Scott,
I agree that SOME Trump supporters are bullies.
And even a smaller group of Trump supporters are criminals.

But again, we can live our lives in fear.
Or we can stay away from bad actors and live in peace.

I for one, rather live in peace.

Too late to undo the damage of censoring news of Hunter's laptop before the election. Election interference in favor of Biden.
