Did Gina and Max’s story meeting your expectations? What were the most memorable moments? Was there anything missing that you were looking for?

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments I was looking forward to their story but it was disappointing. The intensity of their chemistry and emotion from previous books was missing. That said, the ending was sweet.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I enjoyed their story. I did think that the chemistry wasn't what it was throughout this book compared to the previous stories. I figured that was because Max hurt Gina so severely, and he needed to do a little groveling.

I can't think of anything missing, but I'm sure someone will remind me in the comments.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2953 comments Max put his life at risk to save Gina. How much more does a guy like Max have to do? Gina was more than a little surprised that he came for her. I think she really didn't expect him to, and he blew her away when he did.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I didn't feel the chemistry between Max and Gina in this book. Something was missing, but I'm not sure what it was. As others have mentioned, Gina didn't think Max would risk everything to save her. She was very surprised when he showed up.

I think what was missing was the direct contact between these two. Gina’s thoughts about him happened in her head and Max’s efforts to save her were mostly when he was apart from her.

When he heard her voice on that phone for the first time, Max had to mask his feelings for the mission. I think Brockmann took something away from us by doing this. We needed to experience his mind being blown away and we only had Jules to explain why that wasn’t showing outwardly. Conversely, when Gina recognized that the phone number given to Emilio to call had Max’s last four digits, she had to hide her feelings about it.

Those were two huge moments that occurred without a big bang. When they finally see each other, they were too preoccupied to make it a special scene.

That’s what was missing for me. Everything built up to these scenes and the fireworks and explosions were taken away. I get why but I felt robbed.

Does this make sense?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments Yes, it does. I added some of my own fireworks in my head to make up for what the author skipped. ☺️

Hahaha!

This!
There was such build-up to this scene with Max thinking Gina was dead and then discovering that she was alive but in danger, and Gina not believing that Max would come for her.

I was expecting so much from the moment of their reunion and pftt... nothing...zilch!

Okay, glad to see I’m not alone in this. We didn’t get the proper climax.
