I finally finished my reread of Harry Potter that I started back in 2020. LOL. Even though Azkaban is my favorite story of the series, Deathly Hallows is my favorite book. Before I read it the first time, I reread the previous six books and made a list of all the unanswered questions. It was such a joy to read the results of all the foreshadowing done each the previous books. I loved finding out the reasons behind practically everything.
Deathly Hallows is triumphant, fun, and sad. I’ll never be able to read this book without crying a little. The loss of so many beloved characters and the significance some of them played in Harry's journey was beautifully written and told.
I had three predictions going into Deathly Hallows. 1) I thought Harry was a horcrux, 2) I thought he'd have to die to defeat Voldemort, and 3) I thought there was more to Snape's and Dumbledore's relationship. It was satisfying to see my predictions come true. Yes, I know Harry is alive and I believe he died when the horcrux that lived within him was destroyed. I believe that if he had chosen, just as Dumbledore said, he could've gone on. Instead, he chose to return to life and finish what he started because of his love for his friends and the wizarding world.
I listened to Deathly Hallows on audiobook as I did the previous two installments. I've been in prolonged exposure therapy for trauma I endured as a teenager since the beginning of August. After each exposure session, I found that listening to the Harry Potter audiobooks was the best way for me to regulate my emotions and get back into a good headspace. Jim Dale's narration is so soothing and is a fantastic way to enjoy the series.
