Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
House of Salt and Sorrows by Erin A. Craig
Harrow Lake by Kat Ellis
The Halloween Tree by Ray Bradbury
The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse
I Remember You: A Ghost Story by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir

Read one of these and let us know:
What book did you choose?
Why did you choose that book?
Are you glad you read it, or regretting the loss of the precious life essence you spent reading the book? Why?

Thanks! I look forward to reading your posts. :)

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments Well, I read Rebecca fairly recently and didn't actually like it, so I'm definitely picking something else, lol!

I started Rebecca, but didn't finish. I liked the atmospheric writing, but the story and characters, not as much. So I dropped it and read something else!

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 674 comments I LOVE Rebecca. It has so many great discussions possible about it.

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments I loved Rebecca, too but I did a re-read last year and don't want to do it again. I decided to do Bradbury's The Halloween Tree, it's Bradbury, need any more be said? Plus, it's short and the CD version was still available from the library.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments Travels with Charley was I don't even know what month but I finally listened to it and figured I'll just put it here.
I enjoyed it, but was left with a vague dissatisfaction not unlike I feel with short stories. Like it was somehow incomplete. Probably just me.... possibly a result of too much allergy medicine that's somehow still not actually doing its job, lol

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I put all of the October list that was available on audio on hold, so now we wait to see what comes in first. I've actually never met a Bradbury work that I liked, but I'm willing to give even that a go.

Audrey (niceyackerman) | 674 comments Bradbury sure is hit and miss. I did really like Something Wicked This Way Comes.

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments I never read a Bradbury I didn't love. And I mostly don't care for short story collections. His are exceptions. Interessssting!

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments I won't be participating after all. The copy of the Halloween Tree that was on disc was a radio theater presentation, not the book itself. I do not like those. Unless the work starts out as a play anyway. The overdrive versions from both County and City are and 6 weeks out.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I'm 20% into The Halloween Tree.... we'll see if I finish before midnight lol

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I made it to 86% and then got distracted with getting ready for bed stuff. So I could have finished it last night but oh well.
I had a terrible time focusing on/following it at the beginning but ultimately I enjoyed it (even though the pronunciation of Spanish words made my husband cringe).
So I've finally found a Bradbury that I liked.
