The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

Michaela | 187 comments I always wanted to read this, but it will probably take me more than one month. ;)

Sarah Rigg | 140 comments I loved this. A really approachable "classic". And Dumas is a POC, so we have diversity in that sense as well!

True! I didn´t think of this.

True... it took me a year to read, but the pages absolutely flew by -- real life kept getting in the way. Dumas has a beautiful way of writing action and memorable characters. Hugo on the other hand...

It is quite unfortunate that Dumas's ancestry is rarely discussed in connection with his works. That whole family is really deserving of an epic novel of their own.

Michaela | 187 comments I´m behind, so started it only this month, but the pages fly, that´s true, Hulttio. And yes, a book about his family would be interesting!

Michaela | 187 comments Finished this last week and found it exciting, esp. in the beginning. Then it dragged a bit with all the persons and intrigues described. I wish it would have dealt with the moral questions of revenge more. The whole book seemed also too long. 4 stars nonetheless.

you're welcome! i am glad you mentioned it. I had heard more than once dumas was part black and seen his pic but i always forgot. I had NO idea his father was so famous or that his son wrote as well. Or that all 3 are named Alexandre Dumas.

Dumas' family would make a great mini series. one where the POC were actual historical figures not just actors included for "diversity." i would watch that tv show.
