TS Chan (tschan) | 159 comments Scary stuff in this chapter.

Keruli's speech regarding the Children of the Dead Seed and the Tenescowri gave me the creeps!

The organs that Gruntle found in Bauchelain and Broach's caravan was disgusting!

And to cap it all off, we finally see the K'Chain Che'malle and they are absolutely horrifying! What is the connection between the Pannion Seer and the Matron - I think that's probably how they are able to control these K'ell hunters?

Gruntle seems like an interesting one to me and seeing him get a fair bit of development in this chapter was really nice. I certainly think he's got a good head on his shoulders but is stuck in a tricky situation with his master and the unknown quest he's on. I also like Stonny a fair amount because of her feistiness and the scenes of sex were pretty funny to read about.

The Barghast joining with Gruntle and crew was interesting and they seem intriguing, but I don't know fully what their intentions are as although they say their demon hunting it seems like a sort of 'scout out the opponent' situation too. Who knows, maybe I'm reading too much into that.

As for the K'Chain Che'malle as TS said, all pretty insane and grim! A scary thing that mages aren't a big match for them, but luckily the Barghast magic scared them a little which shows they aren't totally overpowering in all ways. The connection to the Matron is certainly something I'll be watching for more on as TS said too.

Also, I looked up an image of a K'Chain Che'malle on google just to see how people envision them and this is what I found: http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/i/201... it really brought them to life for me and made them even crazier and more scary!!

Probably a good place to stop for the night as I'm about to head into book 2 when I next read this, but I'll be reading more tomorrow I'm sure :)

TS Chan (tschan) | 159 comments I also couldn't help Googling for the image of a K'Chain Che'malle. My first impression of them in my mind's eye before seeing the image is like a velociraptor with blades for arms.

Alex Willis (fightingokra) | 71 comments I love how Erikson writes groups of soldiers. They are always an interesting and fun read. The K'Chain Che'Malle are quite scary indeed. I will be interested to find out just how one of these creatures are defeated.

I hope this isn't the end of Gruntle and the crew. I enjoyed the banter between all of them very much.

Dale Nevin | 20 comments I dd the same thing for Apt in the previous book.

Just couldn't quite get my imagination to translate the words.

I'm also enjoying the little side story of Gruntle and the Caravan crew. Though I'm sure it wont be a side story for much longer
