Hi, everyone!

For anyone unfamiliar, this is a monthly challenge where you post a link to a shelf you created. It can be named "PIFM" or "Pick It For Me" etc, if you want one dedicated only to this challenge, or you can use an existing shelf you already have, as long as it has 100 or fewer books on it. The link must be to the specific shelf, or you will not be partnered.. Indicate how many books you would like to have picked for you from that shelf for the month in question. There is no lower limit as to how many books you can have on your shelf, but, of course, they should be books you are interested in reading during the next month and have ready access to.

On or about the 25th of each month, I will post who picks for whom. In order to accommodate an uneven number of participants, pairs will not be reciprocal -- in other words, it won't be Joanne picking for Jennifer and Jennifer picking for Joanne. It may be Joanne picks for Jennifer, Jennifer picks for Herman, and Herman picks for Suzanne, and someone else entirely picks for Joanne.

IF anyone has not been "picked for" by the 30th, I will pick for them if the designated picker can't be contacted by PM.

When you are assigned someone to pick for, note the number of books in parentheses after that person's name in the pick list, go to the link for their shelf, and pick that number of books for them. Post the books in a new message here. That person has the entire following month to read his/her picks. Someone will be picking for you the same way. We all like to see what people think about their picks, so we hope you will keep us posted in this thread!

Example: "In for five, please!
PIFM"

The HTML template for linking your shelf can be found here and if you have trouble, PM me and I will help you.

Your designated shelf must be set so that others can see it. To set up a PIFM shelf for those who would like to, go to the "MY BOOKS" link in the GOODREADS toolbar, scroll down below your shelves on the left until you see the "add shelf" button, and click that. Name it PIFM or Pick It For Me. Add books to it, and post the link to it in this challenge as described above. Again, if you need help, please don't hesitate to PM me!

If you are in for November, post your shelf and the number of picks you'd like to have below. See you on picking day!

November pairs:
Jennifer picks 1 for Martha
Denise picks 3 for Joy
Martha picks 2 for Beth
Joy picks 1 for Jackie
Jackie picks 3 for Lance
Beth picks 5 for Jennifer
Desley picks 2 for Denise
Lance picks 4 for Desley

Martha, it's going to be The Dark Horse (Walt Longmire, #5) by Craig Johnson -- it had a lot of competition on your shelf but this series is too good not to keep reading. :)

Joy D | 1289 comments Jackie,

I am selecting for you a book by an author I have read and enjoyed:
When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin

message 14: by Lance (new)

Lance (sportsbookguy) | 398 comments Desley, for you I am choosing:
Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult Death of a Gossip (Hamish Macbeth, #1) by M.C. Beaton Touch & Go (Tessa Leoni, #2) by Lisa Gardner and Still Midnight (Alex Morrow, #1) by Denise Mina

I really enjoyed "Small Great Things" (yes, believe it or not, I do at times read something that is not about sports!) I am also interested in "Touch & Go" as I have read Lisa Gardner before and liked that book.

Thanks, Jackie. Been putting off the Barkley one for too long. And the Sisterhood even longer! That ‘99 team was special.

These are fantastic picks Martha. I have been meaning to start the Wrexford series( I am afraid to get invested and want to read the series in one go, lol.) and I won Lafayette Place months ago and this motivates me to read it and get a review up on GR.

Have a great November!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 800 comments Denise, for you I pick

November 9 - I keep hearing about her, am going to try one myself this month, but think reading one with November in the title seems cool
The Handmaid's Tale - I keep being told I should watch this

Thanks Desley. I enjoy Colleen Hoover and have been wanting to read The Handmaiden Tale before I start the TV series.

Lance (sportsbookguy) | 398 comments Hi - I am going to make a request to have one of my picks changed. I have a review copy of The Sisterhood The 99ers and the Rise of U.S. Women's Soccer by Rob Goldman The Sisterhood: The 99ers and the Rise of U.S. Women's Soccer which was one of the picks for me, and it’s impossible to read. I have asked the publisher if I can get a better quality copy, but in the meantime, can Desley or someone else pick a substitute one?

To show you what I mean, here are the last three paragraphs of Chapter 4, at which point I finally gave up.

e Mundialito Cup closed o the rst chapter in the history of the national team. In two short years a group of relatively obscure mavericks blazed a trail others would follow. e next generation would never be as raw and gru as the rst wave, but would possess other winning attributes. In the summer of , Dorrance brought into camp a crop of youngsters who were the opposite of the rough and tumblers who’d preceded them. ey arrived in camp in their teens, shy, and small, insignicant to the point that Michelle Akers barely noticed them. ese youngsters, adequately nicknamed “ e Babies,” would be the players caught between the rough-hewn hell-raisers of the past and the more polished next generation. Who better than rough and tumblers like Akers, Lori Henry, and April Heinrichs, the one her teammates called “Ape,” to teach them the ropes.

Wow, that's horrifying. If Desley doesn't pop up by around this time tomorrow, I'll make another pick for you.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 800 comments That's bad! I wasn't actually the one who picked for you Lance, that was Jackie, but here's an alternative just in case :)

The Education of Kendrick Perkins

Lance (sportsbookguy) | 398 comments Oh, that’s right I picked for you! But thanks, I’ll make that one #3 for the month.

Lance (sportsbookguy) | 398 comments Finished #1, The Fireballer: A Novel. Outstanding novel - I have wanted to read more fiction, sports or otherwise, and this one is great. It helps to know baseball, but not necessary to enjoy it. This is a link to my review on my blog:
https://sportsbookguy.blogspot.com/20...

"Barkley" is next up.

Oh, good to know, Beth: that series is in TBR.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 800 comments Finished my first Small Great Things, if I'd known more about what the book was about, I wouldn't have read it, and I was close to giving up in the beginning, but I had enough curiosity to know the ending, so I persevered and as chance would have it, ended up sitting in a hospital app for a few hours so read half in a block, or I think it would have been a longer read. I'm not actually sure I liked the ending, so a 3* read.

Joy D | 1289 comments Finished book 1 of 3 for November and enjoyed it very much:
The Many Daughters of Afong Moy by Jamie Ford - 4* - My Review

message 38: by Lance (new)

Lance (sportsbookguy) | 398 comments Finished the second book for November, Barkley: A Biography. Longer and more detailed than I expected, but a good read. 4 stars.

Joy D | 1289 comments Finished book 2 of 3 for November. It is more plot-driven than character-driven so not really my cup of tea, but is very well written:
Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson - 3* - My Review

She's someone I have to really be in the mood for, although I liked Case Histories quite a bit, Joy. Congrats on finishing it!

Joy D | 1289 comments Finished book 3 of 3 and glad to have finally read this SciFi classic!
Foundation by Isaac Asimov - 4* - My Review

Another great month of reading. Thanks, Denise!

Lance (sportsbookguy) | 398 comments Finished #3, The Education of Kendrick Perkins: A Memoir. Much better than I expected. Thank you to Jackie and Desley for these. Bring on the reading for December

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished November 9 by Colleen Hoover , gave it 5 stars. Colleen Hoover delivers again. This book made me laugh, cry, and gripped my heart as it took me along for an emotional rollercoaster ride. The characters were so imperfectly perfect that it is hard not to fall in love with them.

Thanks Desley for a great pick!

Glad you enjoyed it, I'm hoping to read a Colleen Hoover book this month

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 800 comments I finished Still Midnight on Fri, an enjoyable read, but not as good as others of hers I've read. Starting my last pick shortly

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 800 comments Forgot to update on Tue that I finished my last pick, Death of a Cad - I hadn't realised I'd put the second book in the series on rather than the first, but still enjoyed it enough to buy the third!

message 50: by Denise (new)

Denise (derickert) | 1268 comments Finished The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood , gave it 2 stars. I wanted to like this book but I just couldn't get into it. It took everything I had just to finish it. I felt that the book just didn't go anywhere and was all over the place. The ending left me feeling, "huh." There were so many questions that seemed unanswered by the end.
