lol I am one! I'll be getting my copy next week
I just read the first two chapters. I can put it off a couple of days if no one else is ready. I'll pick it up again in a couple of days. Just putting my thoughts down for the first couple of chapters because I'm sure I'll forget.

I didn't read any more today because I think a few people weren't ready, but I'll read more tomorrow. I don't tend to read much on the weekends, so it's likely people will fly by me when they start.

I made it up to chapter 6 today. I wasn't completely taken in by the blurb for this book, but so many of my Goodreads friends loved it that I thought I'd give it a try. I was wondering if a memoir that is basically about bees would be interesting at all, but so far it is. According to my Kindle chapter 6 is 29% and I'm still engaged with her story.
I knew quite a bit of the information she has shared about bees to this point, but I have also learned more. It's really quite interesting.
Regarding her family life: (view spoiler)

Shall we update at the end of chapter 9?

No worries, Monika! We don't have a set time frame and some people haven't even started yet. Just read at your pace and comment when you can.
I read up to chapter 9 today. I intentionally stopped and just noticed that you said the end of chapter 9, Kevin.
Still enjoying it, not too much to say. (view spoiler)

I ended up with more reading time than I expected today. I'm somewhere in chapter 14 (75% according to my Kindle).

I am really enjoying how at the end of each chapter she compares the life in the beehive to her own life - little nuggets of wisdom.
Good point, Jayme. I thought that (view spoiler)
I like that part too, Jayme. She learned a lot about human behavior through the bees.

I understand that. The mom is pretty terrible, but (view spoiler)
The spoiler is in regards to the trauma in the story up to 75% if you want to know what you're getting into.

I'm finding the bee information fascinating. I took an online freebie course this summer sponsored by Ohio State and it was all about the bumble bee and how critical they are, but don't get all the press that the honeybee does. The course brought a new level of understanding and it's been great fun identifying different bumbles in my backyard.

Just finished this book and am very glad I joined this group! Can’t wait to see what yall thought about it! Happy reading!
I hope to finish tomorrow, but definitely within the next couple of days. Looking forward to reading your spoiler.

An extraordinary story of a girl, her grandfather and one of nature’s most mysterious and beguiling creatures: the honeybee.
Meredith May recalls the first time a honeybee crawled on her arm. She was five years old, her parents had recently split and suddenly she found herself in the care of her grandfather, an eccentric beekeeper who made honey in a rusty old military bus in the yard. That first close encounter was at once terrifying and exhilarating for May, and in that moment she discovered that everything she needed to know about life and family was right before her eyes, in the secret world of bees.
May turned to her grandfather and the art of beekeeping as an escape from her troubled reality. Her mother had receded into a volatile cycle of neurosis and despair and spent most days locked away in the bedroom. It was during this pivotal time in May’s childhood that she learned to take care of herself, forged an unbreakable bond with her grandfather and opened her eyes to the magic and wisdom of nature.
The bees became a guiding force in May’s life, teaching her about family and community, loyalty and survival and the unequivocal relationship between a mother and her child. Part memoir, part beekeeping odyssey, The Honey Bus is an unforgettable story about finding home in the most unusual of places, and how a tiny, little-understood insect could save a life.
