Louise | 3330 comments Hi, I’m Louise from South Wales where I live with my 6 year old Daschund x Spaniel. This is my 5th Wheel A Thon and it is one of my favorite team challenges.

My go to genres are mystery/suspense/thriller; urban fantasy; paranormal; romance and historical, I tend to stay away from horror and space opera although I will read pretty much anything if it fits a challenge.

Introduce yourself to the rest of the team with as little or as much info as you wish. Don’t forget to post your wheel shelf;
Here’s mine: Wheel 7

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments *waves* hi everyone
I'm Vikki from Northern Ireland. I've 2 dogs (1 Alaskan Malamute, 1 Siberian Husky) who make sure my life isn't dull.

I've done quite a few team challenges over the years, right back as far as the first tower teams, & I think the first wheelathon...

I've been a bookworm for as long as I can remember. My favourite genres are crime & thriller but I also read historical fiction, fantasy, chick lit, classics, or anything that takes my fancy.

message 14: by Nanci (last edited Nov 12, 2022 07:04PM) (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Hi team!
I'm Nanci (one of your co-captains) and I live in Virginia in the USA. I've been married for 43 years and we have 3 adult children along with 6 grandchildren and another one coming end of January.

I've played in a number of Wheel challenges and am hooked on playing in many challenges every year. I've been a captain on UNO and have co-captained many challenges before, including one other time with Louise.

Like Vikki, books were my first love! Growing up my neighborhood library had a checkout maximum of two books for children, but after they realized my mom and I were coming in everyday to get more books for me, they told me I could take as many as I liked. The next day we came in with my wagon...true story!

My favorite genres now are historical fiction, fiction, non-fiction, psychological thrillers, and literary. For challenges I stretch my wings a bit and read outside of my norm.

Looking forward to meeting new people and getting some new reading suggestions from my teammates.

Louise | 3330 comments A little over 24hours until we can start. Our word of the week is RAZORBLADE TEARS We are predicted to be able to spell this out twice.

We need 5 books with PINK covers for our bonus points as well as Space Opera tagged books (minimum 10 tags) add to the tracking sheet or post here if you can cover any of these bonuses.

Vikki (silverstarz) | 1278 comments Is there somewhere on the tracking sheet to have book titles, or have I missed it?

On the team sheet there is one but not on the house keeping one

message 19: by Stacey (last edited Nov 13, 2022 01:05PM) (new)

Stacey | 897 comments I'm Stacey. I'm in Ohio (US). I love space opera, it's up there with horror/thriller for me. One reason I love challenges is to push me to try new books and genres, though. I also love translated books for differences in perspective.

message 20: by Jhmingos (last edited Nov 13, 2022 12:28PM) (new)

Jhmingos | 704 comments Hi folks, I'm Jhmingos or you can call me Lizzie. Either name is OK. I'm from California and am really excited that Wheel is on. It's one of my favorite reading challenges. I love classics and mystery thrillers but one of the best things about these challenges is that I get to read books that I usually wouldn't *cough* space opera *cough*.

By the way, I don't have a pet but I love animals so if you feel the urge to share your pet pictures, I'd love to see them.

Sorry, the columns were there just hadn’t named them. Should be fixed.

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments Hello team! Sorry I'm a little late, I was traveling most of the day. I'm the other Stacey and I live in Raleigh NC with my one dog. I haven't yet figured out how to post a pic on GR, or I would share. I read about anything, aside from cozy mysteries. :)

I have one space opera on deck for this week, but no pink covers. Do we have book limits on this that we have to stay under like on Tower Teams?

My shelf: Wheel-7

message 24: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3330 comments @Dale I’ve highlighted the columns that are for Captain use only. Please add your book titles.

@Stacey you can read to your heart’s content. 😀

Louise | 3330 comments We have just over 12hours to go before we begin.

Don’t forget when posting your completions that you note all the options your book works for and that the edition you read is on your shelf.

message 26: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Great to meet everyone! Good job getting some of those pink covers claimed! Excited to get started soon!

I have to go to court this morning for a friend, but hopefully I'll be able to get back on here soon after opening to check on everyone again. Happy reading!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Hi! I'm Mary from Massachusetts. So on EST. I read pretty much everything but not a huge fan of YA or anything overly religious.

I'm not on the computer much on weekends. Also I'm going on vacation to Disney from 12/9 to 12/16. But I'll make up for my reading before and after I go. I will check in while I'm there and have an ebook and audio book on hand for the airplane.

My shelf: wheel-7

message 28: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments Do we want to create a sheet for players to add their books to and fill in the options they work for? That's what the teams I've played on in the past have done. Then they can just be moved to the main sheet?

Or are we just posting here and the captains will fill in books? We have a long word this week.

don't think i have anything with a pink cover or tagged space opera but i'll make sure to start something for this tomorrow. hoping to get two books in this week because i really need to speed up if i'm gonna make my reading goal this year.

message 34: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments Welcome Devann! Challenges always help me read more than normal. I just passed my reading goal, but I set it a little lower this year. I still have two year-long challenges to complete, so I need to read like mad until the end of December!

Stacey | 897 comments I forgot how fast some of you are! (Mary and Lizzie, I'm looking at you!) Also, how challenging it could be to find books I want to read that also meet the challenge. Changed my book due to lack of letters.

message 38: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I'm lucky in that I can listen to audio books at work most afternoons. Also hubby went out last night so I listened while I caught up on some housework.

Dale | 377 comments I read at night and doing school pick ups for my kids 🤣

message 40: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I've also reached an age where I'm wide awake around 5 am most days no matter time I've gone to bed. It's really increased my reading/listening time but I'd rather get another hour of sleep in the mornings.

Helps that I listen to audiobooks at 2x speed. I can go through a lot of books just by listening on my commute and doing random chores.

message 47: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 2567 comments We're off to a great start, team, with a few of you already finishing your books on Day 1! Woo hoo! We still need one more pink cover and of course the more space operas the better, if anyone wants to read another one.

Louise, in reference to your "check this out" I read Razorblade tears in Feb 2022, so it's been more than 6 months. Is that a goal for us to try to read it and answer DQ's? If so, I can toss my name in and do a reread.

It’s only Apples Never Fall and If We Were Villains that count for this 😞

message 49: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I speed up audio books too but only to 1.5. Although I currently have the one I'm listening to at 1.75. This one is paced so slow that having it on 1 sounds like someone intentionally speaking in slow motion.

I'll check out the BOM the titles and see if I'm interested in any and if I can get them.

message 50: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I've read If We Were Villains and don't want to read it again. But I might read Apples Never Fall.
