What book(s) are you currently reading? Take a second to tell us a little bit about the book. What genre is it? How are you liking the plot? What makes it PNR or Fantasy, etc. :)

I'm currently re-reading the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. The hero is moody and mysterious and the romance doesn't come until much later in the series. It's more urban fantasy.

DemetraP | 129 comments Kolorr book 1 by Zoey Draven. Hero is an alien with claws, fangs, wings, and likes to drink human blood.

Heroine is human and her noble family is drowning in debt. Hero offers an arranged marriage (they are strangers) in return for paying off the debts.

So the theme is arranged marriage and enemies to lovers. Desire in His Blood (Brides of the Kylorr Book 1) by Zoey Draven

Johnathon Wright | 212 comments Currently I am reading The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. This is the second book in his Kingkiller's Chronicles. Many told me was a bit of a let down following The Name of the Wind, the first book of the chronicles. That is not my experience. No far, it has a very firm hold on me. I still want to know what happens next.

It's a long one, just over 1,100 pages. I'm just at 356 right now but I am liking it a lot.
For fans of the world Rothfuss has created, I strongly recommend Rothfuss's novella, The Slow Regard of Silent Things.
A novella featuring the world and POV of Auri, the strange white haired girl who inhabits the abandoned partly collapsed ruins and tangles of the ancient areas under the Arcanium. The story is about her and her world, not about any other characters from The Name of the Wind.

I liked this series but it's like the author just stopped working on it. We've been waiting for book 3 for years.

I know, it is frustrating. I do not expect him to actually finish it. I suspect he has intimidated himself. Believe it might help him to finish it if he set a goal for a much shorter book for part three. Five hundred pages or even less.

He sometimes takes too long on some sections. Even his main character admitted to spending way too much time on his first year at university

I just finished The witches Of White Haven series, and I absolutely loved it. A new one comes out in February, but I can’t seem to find anything that I like.

Johnathon Wright | 212 comments Jim Butcher's Ghost story. Had trouble getting into it but got over that hump. It is difficult to imagine Harry without his magic and being a ghost.

DemetraP | 129 comments I'm re-reading the Undertaking of Hart and Mercy.

She is a female undertaker at her family's business. He is a magical ranger who travels all over killing magical bad things.

It is the law that all rangers have a funeral package on file because unburied dead bodies turn into bad things.

So he enjoys teasing her and tries to bring her family's business any dead bodies that didn't have a funeral package on file that need burial because her business is being forced out of business by a big chain that is cheaper and flashier.

It starts off as "you are irritating" and turns into friends then lovers. I enjoyed the build and there are a few steamy scenes.

I thought the world building was great. There were also a few funny scenes that made me laugh out loud. The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen

Katherine Genet I am ripping through this series by Katherine Genet. The Rising by Katherine Genet I just started the third book, and I’m so immersed in the characters/story. It almost reminds me of a modern day Mists of Avalon without King Arthur.

DemetraP | 129 comments I read a darker alien romance called Gravity by Marine Simcoe.

There is an anomaly in space. It sucks in spaceships and they crash and are stuck there forever.

Heroine crash lands there. She is the only woman.

So the captain has to keep her alive, not raped to death, and keep fights from breaking out over her.

He has a plan. She'll put on a show (naked) once a week for the crew. She refuses.

He explains he's one guy and they'll fight and kill each other for a chance at her. This is the only way. She wants to escape the anomaly and he says everyone does but they have never found a way.

I liked the story. Survival, backstabbing, some romance. Gravity (Dark Anomaly, #1) by Marina Simcoe

Rachel Adams (rachadams) | 9 comments Earlier this year I enjoyed some interesting concepts where F/UF/Steampunk are concerned by reading the short stories and flash fiction from Margaret Pinard in Fabled Passages Speculative Stories by Margaret Pinard

I read a short story by S.A. Crow that was a contemporary romance, but she is planning her first dive into Urban Fantasy right now, and I'm excited.

I just started our writer's group read of the month (On the Wings for Writers) - Bratva Darling (The Ivankov Brotherhood, #1) by Sabine Barclay

This totally looks like a guilty pleasure kind of book...lol. Not PNR/UF, but I promised to try it out.

DemetraP | 129 comments I liked Savage Desire by Tiffany Roberts. The book reads fine as a stand alone. Heroine is a human bartender. The hero is a green orc like warrior berserker.

They basically get kidnapped by slavers and have to survive after the ship crashes. And figure out a way to escape and get off the planet.

There is a build up until they are physically intimate, but when it happens after that is very steamy. Savage Desire (The Infinite City #5) by Tiffany Roberts

DemetraP | 129 comments I really liked the alien romance series Domini by Talia Rhea. Each book is over 500 pages long. But the books do not drag. I was very interested the entire time.

You really get to know both the hero and the heroine. There are lots of steamy scenes but also a plot. Each hero and heroine are very different and well drawn.

Book 1 has a warrior king hero. Book 2 has a sexy nerd hero who is the number 1 scholar on the planet. Book 3 has the king's spymaster as the hero.

I just really liked all 3 books. Book 1 and 2 were more romantic and steamy. Book 3 is on a different planet with a lot of politics so while I liked it, it's not my favorite in the series.Savior of the DominiSpirit of the DominiHealer of the Domini

DemetraP | 129 comments I wanted to see what all of the hype was about so I read "Fourth Wing".

Technically it is a young adult story but she is not "whiney" or have out of control hormones like most young adult books.

A really unique book about dragon riders and how they become dragon riders at a very cutthroat school.

She is "fragile" and suffers broken bones and other injuries very easily. She wants to go to scribe school. Her mother, a famous general, refuses to allow this. She either graduates dragon rider school or dies trying. She doesn't give her daughter a choice.

The heroine's older sister is a dragon rider and gives her some advice. Make allies, not friends. Don't trust anybody because everyone is out to kill you and make the competition to get a dragon easier.

The heroine made smart decisions. I liked how she dealt with situations. She actually thought about things and tried to be true to herself.

The romance is slow build but when it happens, it is very steamy.

If you were planning to buy a hardcover copy, the first edition has "sprayed edges" where the edges of the pages are black, and in the middle of this design is 4 white dragon silhouettes. So it is very pretty. I have heard this "sprayed edges" will not be available in later editions of the book.
