November 2022 Tasks

One Point Tasks

1.1 Happy Thanksgiving
Let's give "THANKS" for all the Great Books we've read this year.

BONUS POINT: MACY'S THANKSGIVING PARADE 🦃

1.4 (Nov 15) - I Love to Write Day
Read a book with a character that write letters to someone -OR- someone writing a book.

1.5 (Mickslibrarian's task) MC House OF Sweets
Our "Special" for this month: TWIX

My sister works in marketing for MARS, Inc., and I am therefore not allowed to mention any products which are in direct competition with any Mars product in her general vicinity. Which is impossible because I love Reese's peanut butter cups (Hershey product). So I hope to placate her/stockpile some goodwill for the future by dedicating this task to the product she was working on when I picked my candy, although she has since moved to Snickers.

Choose one of the following:

a. Mars, Inc. is headed by the Mars family. Read a book with all the letters of MARS in the author's LAST name only.

b. In 2012, Mars launched the Right Twix/Left Twix campaign (I am a left). Read a book with two words with opposite meanings in the title, no subtitles (eg. Up the Down Staircase, Big Lies in a Small Town, North and South).

c.. The most common version of TWIX is caramel on shortbread covered with milk chocolate. Read a book with a golden-brown cover e.g. The Ghost of Crutchfield Hall by Mary Downing Hahn The City of Ember (Book of Ember, #1) by Jeanne DuPrau Ella Enchanted (Ella Enchanted, #1) by Gail Carson Levine Pandemonium by Daryl Gregory We Never Talk about My Brother by Peter S. Beagle

1.6 (Nov 25) - BLACK FRIDAY
Read a book with a black cover (60%+ - show cover) -OR- the word SHOPPING in text. (give loc & sentence).

1.7 (Linda C's Task) Election Day – Nov 8

The U.S. is very divided at this election time.
Read a book where the main characters have opposing opinions on some topic (does not have to be political) – tell us what it is

1.8 (Nov 27) ADVENT
Read a book with candles on the cover -OR- MPG: Religion/ Christian.

1.9 (Marilyn's Task) The Reading Jar Winner #1: Thanksgiving Cornucopia
Associated with Thanksgiving, a cornucopia symbolizes abundance and a bountiful harvest.
Read a book with an author whose first and last names begin with any 2 letters in CORNUCOPIA.

Example: Richard Osman, Isabel Allende

1.10 (Mickslibrarian's Task) The Reading Jar Winner #2: TUT, TUT

November 2022 is the 100th anniversary of the rediscovery and entrance of King Tut's tomb by Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon's team of archaeologists and excavators. Like many historical events, this one had positive and negative ramifications; on the one hand, the excavation increased interest in the field of archaeology, provided historians with a better understanding of Egyptian burial practices, and gave a newly-independent Egypt a focal point for national pride. However, there was much controversy at the time about who had the rights to the finds, if anyone, as well as the integrity of the discovery and questionable archaeological practices. Not to mention, the curse...

Choose one:

a. Read a book set in Egypt (indicate the setting if not clear from GR description).
OR
b.. Read a book with either the word TREASURE(S) or CURSE(S) in the title (may include subtitles).

BONUS POINT: If both options are met within the same book.

2.3 (Pat's Task) NATIONAL FAMILY LITERACY MONTH

National Family Literacy Month is celebrated in the United States during the month of November. National Family Literacy Month is an opportunity for families to learn and read together. It also celebrates the work literacy programs do to empower families.

1) Read a book by an author whose initials can be found in the phrase "NATIONAL FAMILY LITERACY". If the author uses three (or more) names, all initials need to be found in the phrase. Letters may be used only as often as they appear in the phrase.

2) Read a book with the word FAMILY in the title, subtitle, series, or as its MPG

2.4 (Pat's Task) VETERAN'S DAY REMEMBRANCE

World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”

Choose two of the following options and read a book for each.

1) Read a book tagged "war."

2) Read a book set in either France or Germany.

3) Read a book with the numbers 11, 19, or 18 in the page count.
