Beth | 146 comments I have two big plans for 2023: to simplify my life and to read all of Shakespeare.

The goal of simplifying my life will have many aspects. For one, I plan to get rid of clutter and excess possessions in our home and to stop buying things I don't need.

As far as books go, despite the fact that most books I buy are ebooks or audiobooks, I still have far too many that I have purchased and not read. While I will still preorder and buy books by favorite authors and in on-going series, I will try to limit purchasing books just because they seem interesting and they are on sale. I will make greater use of my library for reading books that I don't currently own.

The Shakespeare goal is very daunting, but I have a reading plan and I am fully prepared to scale back if it seems to be too much or doesn't allow me to read other things. At the very least, I plan to read one play per month and finish the sonnets by the end of the year.

I am excited to see what the new year brings!

Beth | 146 comments 2023 Wrap Up:

This is the 8th year I've participated in the Around the Year challenge and the 4th time I've completed it.

While I didn't accomplish all of my goals (surprise! lol), I did read 13 Shakespeare plays and about 70 sonnets. I am taking a bit of a break, but I may read some more later in the year. I have to say, some of the lesser known plays are completely bonkers (I'm looking at you Measure for Measure, lol)

Just as the Shakespeare goal is better for me as a multiyear project, ridding myself of clutter and unnecessary possessions will be one as well.

On the whole, happy enough with how this reading year turned out and looking forward to a great 2024!
