Britany | 4 comments I'm still plugging away at Elatsoe Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger -- I'm 6 books behind my goal of 80 for the year, so need to step it up!

message 6: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Just finished A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle, #1) by Libba Bray which is YA Paranormal/Fantasy. I use to read these type of books almost exclusively (not the YA part so much) but haven't lately. I felt like getting back to fantasy and historicals instead of just mystery for a few books at least.

♥ Sandi ❣ | 617 comments Gee I have finished so many book since I last posted...sigh! But currently I am reading The House of Eve The House of Eve by Sadeqa Johnson by Sadeqa Johnson and Georgie, All Along Georgie, All Along by Kate Clayborn by Kate Clayborn both ARC's coming out in February.

Listening to Our Missing Hearts Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng by Celeste Ng and EXTREMELY disappointed in her for leaving out quotation marks - the laziest thing an author can do, IMO! I got rid of the book - immediately - without reading it. So as not to add to her profits, I got the audio from the library. Biggest pet peeve when it comes to an author and I will automatically decrease the review by at least one full star.

☕Laura | 31 comments I don't think it's laziness on the part of a writer not to use quotation marks as much as it is a stylistic choice. On this topic, I thought the article below was interesting. I don't usually take notice of the presence or absence of quotation marks but in reading this article and the examples provided I realized I tend to prefer writing without them. There is an elegance to me in the way it flows.

After reading that article by Clark I feel even stronger that quotation marks need to be used. Every single point he made pointed right to the reason that quotation marks are used. I want that conversation to be extrapolated. I want no doubt about who is saying what. If I want poetry I will read a book of poems. When I read a book that has conversation in it, I want to be sure it is conversation and who is saying it, because it is usually very important and it is usually the characters who carry the book along.

Good article Laura on why authors don't use quotation marks - but I still vehemently disagree with this Clark - whoever he is.
