Hello, I'm looking for a fantasy book I read some time around 2015-2018. It was about a young lost heir to the throne of a kingdom in a medieval world, who was either working or enslaved alongside a bunch of other kids. The kids were ordered around by an adult man who may have been training them to be thieves, but don't quote me on that. Near the end of the book the man attempts to kill the protagonist, but the protagonist defeats him and becomes the new king. It was also the first entry in a series, though I never read the sequels; I remember the first sequel's cover having a sword on it, though.

Not The Lies of Locke Lamora, right?

Does the MC/protag know from the start that he is royalty? Is he in hiding, or is his lineage commonly known?

William, I see you added a link for The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen in your original comment and the header. Glad you found your book.

I'm posting a new comment for confirmation, so we don't miss your update. (Unfortunately, editing the first post isn't highlighted as a "new" comment for moderators.)
