25.1 - TessaVanessa’s Task: Book Style Challenge

I took a Children’s Literature class in college and loved discovering the different ways picture books were written and presented. There were lift-the-flap books, pop-up books, books that had pockets with extra materials, books with cut-outs, etc. I have never forgotten how much I enjoyed the different forms. This has carried over into my adult reading.

Read 2 books, from 2 different options. REQUIRED: Specify in your post the options you used. One book with the genres sequential art, graphic novel, comic books, manga, etc. may be used.

Option 1: Books in Verse: Ellen Hopkins was the first author I discovered who wrote fiction books in verse. I was hooked. Read a book from one of these lists (caution: not all titles will meet SRC requirements):

REQUIRED: State which list and page number it came from.

Option 2: Epistolary Fiction: The term "epistolary novel" refers to the works of fiction that are written in the form of letters or other documents.

Read a book from this list: Epistolary_Fiction

REQUIRED: State the page number of the list on which your book was found.

Option 3: Graphic Novels: Who knew that I would enjoy reading graphic novels. I certainly didn’t think they were for me, but this challenge has expanded my reading into genres I’d never read before.

Read a book with a MPG of sequential art, manga or graphic novel.

Option 4: Plays: The first play I remember reading as an adult was Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. It was my first year of leading a book discussion group and I was learning the likes and dislikes of my members. They weren’t as keen on trying different writing styles as I was.

Read a book with a MPG of Plays.

Quick one. The new book page uses the plural "graphic novelS" rather than the singular ( I REALLY hate the new book page). Presumably that's still okay for Option 3? And if so, is it worth specifying the plural form in the task as well?

Graphic novel(s) works. I agree, I don't like the new page either.

Note the "etc." at the end of the list? That will cover tiny changes like this, and we are not going to be spending our time changing tasks to match minor variations between the task wording and GR changes. You can also use the genre "comics" even though the task says "comic books."

These are genres, not tasks that require exact matches of words in a title.

Just in case it disappears from the new book page, please confirm The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time for plays.

Hi just a quick question I am reading The Weight of Water on List Books by tess in verse. At the moment is shows on the first page of that shelf but how is that shelf ordered will it always show on page 1 or when I claim it should I put the number at the side of the book which is 109

I just looked and it appears on the 1st page. I will not reorder the list until after the Challenge is over.

This was certainly a challenging task & not one of my favourites!
I read: Dreaming of You: A Novel in Verse & just didn't get on with it, then I thought I'd stretch myself with a book that is a different style but a more familiar story: The Subtle Knife: The Graphic Novel
(Actually I don't remember reading this book, but I definitely know Golden Compass ...). I assumed it would be a quick read but I found it really hard to pick the storyline out of the pictures - I guess for me I can conjure pictures from words or audio, but I can't conjure words from pictures!

I have concluded that I don't think this style of book is for me, though I will try again before dismissing it completely ...
