We learned in the first book that Bree had experienced a traumatic event as a child involving the death of her parents. This story presents the details of what happened that night from Bree’s point of view. What did you take away from their experience? Were there any remaining questions about what happened?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I realized that even at a young age Bree took care of her younger siblings, keeping them out of the way of their father. If she hadn't hid under the porch with the kids, he probably would have shot all of them.

I agree, Robin. It also occurred to me that Bree had always taken care of and protected her siblings before that night so the separation had to have inflicted even more trauma. Also, the sequence of events feels questionable. The timing of that second gunshot is puzzling. We may not have all of the facts about what happened last night. Not sure if her father would kill himself.

~Melissa~ | 429 comments Bree has always had to be the responsible one and protector from a young age was my take away. I do wonder about that second gunshot and what really happened between her parents.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree with you all. Bree takes on the responsibility for her siblings.

I am also interested in finding out if there is more to her parents' murders.
