The author gives us a few “Easter eggs” with references to characters from the Scarlet Falls and Morgan Dane series. Did you catch them?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments When I started reading this book, I didn't realize that it took place in the same county as Scarlet Falls and Morgan Dane. When it was mentioned that the previous sheriff had killed himself and that there was a lot of corruption, I started wondering if it was the same sheriff from the previous books. I also noticed when they mentioned Lance Kruger as a private investigator in the area.

~Melissa~ | 429 comments Hmmm - I think I missed all that while I was listening. I'm a bad detective lol. Now I feel like I should go back and read it. to see where I missed it. I did wonder about the corrupt Sheriff at the time.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I seem to miss some things when I'm listening to an audiobook, Melissa. My mind seems to wander all over the place instead of listening intently.

~Melissa~ | 429 comments I went back and searched. Made me feel better Lance is only mentioned once in the book. Think it flew right over me when listening to it. I usually listen at 2.5 speed, lol. Now I want to grab the last Morgan Dane book again and check for the other officers in that book to compare

Those were the two big reference: Lance and the sheriff. I caught them both because I despised that sheriff so much and could never forget him. I happened to be listening rather intentionally when Lance’s name was mentioned. FYI, these days I only listen to mysteries when I won’t be distracted because I’ve missed too much stuff.
