I feel like my synopsis was a little more vague than I usually like to do (I'm currently SUPER sick, so my apologies) but I feel in a way that it's best to go into this book knowing very little so you will (hopefully) be as pleasantly surprised as I was my first go round. :)

11/22/63 was originally published as King's 60th book in 2011 and follows Jake Epping, a high school English teacher who inadvertently finds a time slip in the universe and is tasked with going back in time to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22nd, 1963 (hence the title). Seems simple enough, right? According to King he had been sitting with an idea for a book like this in his back pocket since the beginning of his career, but felt that a historical novel of this magnitude required more time, research, and literary talent than he currently possessed. Like his previously published novel Under the Dome, he abandoned the idea and came back to it later in life. Luckily for him too, because it was met with great critical acclaim.
It was adapted in 2014 as an eight episode miniseries for Hulu. Executive produced by J.J. Abrams and starring James Franco in the lead role, as well as Cherry Jones, Sarah Gadon, Chris Cooper, Lucy Fry and others. The miniseries was also met with great reviews, eventually winning a Saturn award. It still remains one of my absolute favorite King adaptations.
This book stands firmly in my top 3 favorite Kings of all time and I will die on that hill. I always suggest it for anyone who has never read him, because it's unlike anything else he's ever written. You want Americana? Science fiction? Historical events? One of the best damn love stories you're ever going to read? THIS BOOK HAS IT ALL. The characters really suck you in and you find yourself so incredibly attached to this story by the end of it. It's almost perfect we're ending the year on this note.
Missy and I are truly grateful each and every year that we're able to share our love of King with you all. We look forward to hearing what you think of this month's read and can't wait to see what the next year has in store for the group!
Happy end of 2022 Constant Readers!
