Hi! My name is Cassandrah Woyak, and I created this group to help with finding books to fulfill the POPSUGAR Reading Challenge 2023, because we can search the internet, but we don't know if anyone actually would recommend any of the books we find! I also thought it would be fun to see how others are doing with this challenge, and see how everyone else if fulfilling the topics, so we have the weekly check-ins as well. So I thought we'd answer a few questions to get to know everyone :)

What is your favorite genre of books?
Who is one of your favorite authors?
What is one of your all time favorite series?
How many books did you read last year, and did you do a challenge?
Why did you join this group and choose this challenge?
Did you come over from the 2022 group?

Aleesha Erickson Hello! My name is Aleesha Erickson. I like to read mostly thrillers but occasionally I will read something from another genre. My favorite author is probably Mark Edwards. Outside of the thriller genre, I really like Colleen Hoover. I don’t prefer to read series but I did enjoy the Stillhouse Lake series by Rachel Caine. This year I have read 56 books so far. I didn’t partake in any challenges in 2022, but I joined this group hoping to do some reading outside my comfort zone in 2023 and maybe find some good suggestions. I’m looking forward to this challenge!

Noah S (luxedeluxe) | 5 comments Hi! I'm Noah S! I love urban fantasy but I read all types. Neil Gaiman is absolutely my all time favorite author but unfortunately I've read all his stuff and I'm not doing rereads for this challenge. I loved the Percy Jackson series as a kid and it still has a place close to my heart. I unfortunately didn't have a chance to read a lot of books last year (at least not for leisure) and I'm hoping to remedy that in 2023. This is my first year participating :)

♱ laura | 5 comments hello! i'm laura :) i've never completed the popsugar reading challenge, but in joining this group i'm hoping it will keep me motivated and inspired. as of now, i've read 20 books (and failing the goodreads reading challenge), so i'm hoping for a better reading year in 2023; my tbr shelf will thank me. i'm a mood reader so i dabble in all genres, but i'm a sucker for paranormal romance. one of my favourite series is the otherworld series by kelley armstrong, but the adrian x isolde series by scarlett st. clair is a close second.

Jessica (justjessica365) Hello, I am Jessica. I attempted the popsugar challenge in 2020 but stopped due to stress. In fact i pretty well stopped reading books for pleasure and moved fully back into fanfiction. I am using this challenge to get back into reading actual books.
My favorite genre in scifi fantasy and i adore Mercedes Lackey, particularly her Heralds of Valdemar series. Currently I am 23 books into my 25 book challenge for the year and plan on going for 30 books this year as i think i can take a couple of prompts at once in one book. I chose this group to help me figure out what books to choose for the prompts and to help motivate me to complete them.

Thank you so much for creating this group! 2023 will be my first year doing the Popsugar challenge. I'm excited and nervous!

What is your favorite genre of books? - Mystery/Thriller

Who is one of your favorite authors? Liane Moriarty

What is one of your all time favorite series? Hunger Games

How many books did you read last year, and did you do a challenge? 6, I think? I need to get better about tracking and I have a planner now to help me do just that!

Why did you join this group and choose this challenge? I started a BookTube channel earlier this year, then put it on hold to plan my wedding! Time to get back at it and I thought a challenge like this would be a great way to talk about a good variety of books.

Did you come over from the 2022 group? No. This is my first time doing the challenge.

What is your favorite genre of books? My favorite genre is probably romance.

Who is one of your favorite authors? My favorite author is Sarah J Maas!

What is one of your all time favorite series? Definitely “A Court of Thorns and Roses” by Sarah J Maas.

How many books did you read last year, and did you do a challenge? So far I’ve read 77 books and my goal is 100 (we’ll see if we get there lol). Doing the 2022 PopSugar challenge currently, and I’m at 33/50, so we’ll see if we get there too in the last few weeks!

Why did you join this group and choose this challenge? I’ve tried to finish the popsugar challenge since 2019, but still working on trying to complete one! I chose these because I like the prompts.

Did you come over from the 2022 group? Yes

Alicja (140177766-alicja) Hi, my name is Alice. I have joined this group to help me tackle my current TBR list, there are around 30-40 books in there at the moment so I’m hoping participating in this will help me read all of my books. I normally read fictional books, which you can really see when you look through all of the books I’ve read previously, but I’m not scared of venturing out of my comfort zone.

message 9: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Bittle | 1 comments Hi, My name is Dawn and this is my 2nd attempt at the PopSugar Challenge. I first attempted the challenge in 2021 but only completed 9 books. My goal this year is 25 books but I would love to complete all 50 prompts.

What is your favorite genre of books? - Historical Fiction

Who is one of your favorite authors? Philippe Gregory

What is one of your all time favorite series? Hunger Games

Why did you join this group and choose this challenge? I joined the group for accountability and to find books that fit prompts I am having a hard time finding a title for.

Did you come over from the 2022 group? No. I was in the 2021 group though.

I look forward to hearing about what everyone is reading.

Tammy | 14 comments My name is Tammy. I like to read most any genre. Some of my favorite authors are: Philippa Gregory, Stephen King, Nicholas Sparks. Favorite series is probably Harry Potter. I was in the 2022 challenge but was only able to finish one book. I joined to encourage myself to read more and to see what others are reading. Amber Robinson Walker | 4 comments Hi! I’m Amber 💛

*My favorite genre of books is a toughie, because I really work to read a lot of different things; however, if pressed I’d say general fiction and children’s books
*Current favorite authors are Fredrick Backman, Sarah Addison Allen, Andrew Sean Greer, and Jane Austen
*I read the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer last year, really enjoyed them
*I read 115 books last year, and I’m shooting for 125 this year. I participated in three challenges last year, and I’m doing four this year (this one, the Girlgxo keywords and monthly motifs, and an additional one where I read a recommendation from my friends every month)
*I did (and completed, including advanced categories) the PopSugar challenge last year, but I just joined Goodreads a week or so ago.

message 12: by Moriarty (new)

Moriarty | 16 comments Hi everyone, I'm moriarty!
My favorite genres are probably thrillers, especially psychological and YA, horror and biographies.
Some of my favorite authors are Stephen King, Nick Hornby, Neil Gaiman and Patricia Highsmith.
I'm not really big on series, but I read The Lying Game series by Sara Shepard pretty much in one session so maybe that haha

I used to do the Popsugar challenge a few times but during the covid years I could barely concentrate on reading. Last year I read 16 books. I want to get back into the habit and hope that the challenge will give me some motivation. But I don't wanna pressure myself and hope to at least finish 20 books. So if a book matches two categories that counts for me :)
