All Creatures Great and Small...

This is a series of books, which can be read in two story editions, single volume editions, or multiple story editions. It originated in 1970 and has been made into both movies and TV series.

I have not read these books (altho maybe I did start them as a child or at least in a younger book edition?) but I did start watching the newest version of the TV series on PBS. I am excited for the third season to start. This is one of the few wholesome story lines on TV . No murders, no cussing, no violence - or than the loss of an animal and they work that into the story line quite well, as an act of nature, not as a violent happening.

Anyone else watching this series?

Sandi, I agree about All Creatures Great and Small. It is a very sweet show without being too sappy.

I'm watching. I enjoyed a lot of the books as a child/teen/YA and reread one with a book group. I enjoy the show a lot.

Jan 8th can't some soon enough...

Loved the first episode of this season (had it taped and watched it last night.) Happiness, sadness, laughter- all the usual feelings this show brings.

I enjoyed it too Bonnie. This one is always good - no violence, no smut - just good clean showmanship. Such a change for today's TV. Well except for the cow - how sad!

I felt so bad for not just the cow, but the farmer, his son, and the vets trying to do the hard right thing.

The last episode was really good. Siegfried's behavior was so awful, but then he somewhat redeemed himself (or at least we got a reason for his horrible mood.

I agree Bonnie. Each episode is done so well. I hope this show goes on for a long time.

As I understand it tonight is the last episode of this years season. I am one episode behind, so maybe I can catch up this week.

I watched it. I haven't watched the whole season but I find it easy to catch up. I didn't like the end, it just made me think he was looking at his brother for the last time. I read the books back a thousand years ago but don't remember much about them except that I loved them at the time.

I read only the first book, 5 years ago, and loved it. I adore the TV series. I think it has been my very favorite show this past year. How the friendship between James and Tristan has grown to where they really feel like brothers. How Sigfrid has shown he does have a heart.

I still have two episodes to watch from this season. Maybe this coming weekend.

Like last year once football was over and I no longer watched TV all day Sunday I started watching TV most of the day on Saturday trying to get caught up on all the series and movies I had recorded. Will probably do that again this year, until football returns...lol!

I finally got the last two episodes of this season watched yesterday. I wonder if Tristin will be on next season or this was his final show? Quite a tearjerker finale for the year.

Just started the entire series. Watching it on PBS. I love it already.

I have been watching and enjoying the 4th season of this show. Not many wholesome things to watch that return season after season and this one is more enjoyable for that reason.

Me too. Brings tears to my eyes almost every episode. And cute cat they've added!

I hate when they have to put an animal down, but they do it in good taste - or as well as they can and make it realistic.

I just finished the end of the 4th season last night. Dragging behind just a bit in this series. Anyone heard about a 5th season? I assume with letting the new vet move into the house and the new baby they plan to continue the series? 🤞

There will be a Season 5. It has already started filming (and may even be complete by now).

I wasn't sure that was the final episode or not. It seemed like a short series this time. But always so good!

Great to hear Ruby. Hope they don't wait a full year to show it.

Karen I wasn't sure either. I went back a couple seasons to see how many episodes they had - since it wasn't stated for this season. And I think that was the end. We will know next Sunday for sure...lol!

No. I don't the airing date has been announced yet.

For the past couple of seasons that I recall, the new season starts right after the new year. Hoping they do the same.

Yay! New season of All Creatures Great and Small coming to MASTERPIECE on PBS Sunday, Jan.12, 2025, 9/8c. Season 5

I see where this show has started - I think in the UK? Not sure - I can' remember. Evidently they get the full broadcast before we do. As far as I know this one is still on track to start this next January.

Season Five has come and gone, but all episodes are on Brit Box or PBS Masterpiece for viewing.

This years season seemed to really fly by. Nothing has been said, that I can find, about a 6th season, but with an 8.6 out of 10 rating, I believe that we will be honored with a 6th season. When I hear I will holler.

Sandi, PBS announced a S6 when they announced S5 (just no date but I'd bet on Jan 2026 to follow their recent trend):

Based on best-selling author James Herriot’s beloved and iconic collection of stories, the critically acclaimed adaptation from BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning production company Playground (Howards End, Wolf Hall, The Hardacres) will return for two seasons consisting of six episodes each plus Christmas Specials. Returning to the ensemble in Season 5 will be Callum Woodhouse as Tristan Farnon. MASTERPIECE co-produces with Channel 5 in association with global partner All3Media International.
