It's time to sign up to select our group reads for 2023. If you haven't done it before it's really easy and we're happy to help.
Both books have to be the first in a series, and not been a group choice in the last 18 months.
If there's a specific month you want, we'll reserve it for you. Please let me know if you find out you can't do it, so we have time to get someone else.

I hope I'm not stepping on any toes here, but since it's nearly January and nobody else has stepped in to choose books - and because I didn't sign up to choose later in the year - I browsed through the Featured Series thread and found a couple of series that haven't been featured in this group yet.

Using last year's themes, the first probably falls into the Cooking -> Specialty category, and is the Grilled Cheese series by Linda Reilly. The first book is Up to No Gouda.

My other choice is the Cookies & Chance series by Catherine Bruns. The first book is Tastes Like Murder.

The first book in both series is available for Kindle, in paperback and on audio, so I hope that covers all the bases.

If Nell doesn't start threads for these tomorrow, I'll do it after lunch with Daughter and her BF. And if I'm out of line here, I apologize. Nell and Jaxnsmom, feel free to delete this post if necessary :)

My real life friend loves that series. The dog on the cover is cute but I'm not into cheese enough to want to read the series.

QNP, I love cheese but can't have it without paying the price later, but I still enjoy the series.

message 16: by Helen (new)

Helen (helennn) | 1020 comments Thank you Barb. My budget is very tight at the moment, and I already have too many books waiting to be read. The first is too expensive for me on Kindle here in Australia, but the second is possible.

My friend feels the same way but her husband loves it when she reads cheese themed mysteries and goes out and buys some nice cheese LOL! He also likes the punny titles.

Thanks for stepping in Barb!

I can't eat cheese and avoid reading cheese-themed cozies. You guys have me wanting to give this series a try!

message 20: by Tami (new)

Tami Pope (hootie33) | 3 comments I just picked up Tastes Like Murder.

message 21: by Meg (new)

Meg (makeli2) | 1534 comments I had the second book after Tastes Like Murder on my January reading list. By great coincidence I also had Up to No Gouda on the list.

I honestly feel for you all that can't do cheese. I would be lost without it in my life, seriously. But I have my own no-no foods: onion and garlic and anything in that food family.

message 22: by L J (new)

L J | 714 comments Added the cheese cozy series to my series tbr list. One of my favorite characters in the Bromance Book Club series is the mysterious cheese man who has a secret or almost secret cheese store.

I'm glad I can eat cheese. My main no-no food: canned or cooked peppers. Some friends could do cooked but not fresh. Dining together required care since most of us liked spicy foods.

message 23: by Alice (new)

Alice | 756 comments Looks like no one else signed up for February other than me. I sent Jaxnsmom a message with authors and theme for February. I can set up when I hear back or will set up at beginning of week

Here is what I sent

theme Pacific Northwest
Author Lynn Cahoon (she has not be picked since 2015)
Series: Kitchen Witch Mystery
Book 1 One Poison Pie
Question she has many Series do you want me to list out other series of hers for extra reading for those who like Lynn Cahoon?

2nd Author

Abby Collette

Series Ice Cream Parlor Mystery
Book one A Deadly Inside Scoop

Again Ms. Collette has another series can I list that for extra reading.?

I think just stick with one series - that means that if someone else would like to pick the same author but another series later in the year they can.

Also can you confirm if they are just ebooks, or are they also dead tree and maybe audio. (nice to have a mix as some people don't have an ereader for instance.)

I don't use ebooks but I checked on Amazon and they both on Kindle.

there are used copies available cheap for both on Amazon. Both are paperbacks.

Hilary. If I remember correctly we are not supposed to repeat an author for 3 years, but our moderators can confirm.

Any ways I hope you all enjoy them.

February is my birthday month

Alice | 756 comments Who over posted on top of our group with Feb book and covers thank you.

Can we add the themes to the first post here so we know what has been selected for 2023?

Barb | 1056 comments Mod
Only jaxnsmom can edit her post at the top of the thread, so everyone will have to scroll through the thread to see which themes have already been chosen.

I believe that the series not the author is the not to be used

message 30: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear | 1194 comments I had an ARC of one of the Kitchen Witch mysteries but passed it along to a friend who is more into that one. I like Abby Colette's ice cream mysteries more for the cozy than the mystery.

Okay for March I am thinking of Poppy Redfern and the Midnight Murders by Tessa Arlen (historical) and Fundraising the Dead by Sheila Connolly (my pick)

Zermeena | 725 comments I think I'm down for May and I have a question. Is there an easy way to know which authors have been selected in the last 18 months so I don't choose them? Also where is the list of prompt? Thanks!

message 34: by Alice (new)

Alice | 756 comments If you go to the author of month top level and open top level you an scroll through all the authors we have chosen through the years.

Do you mean list of themes? it is topic above this one

A lot of authors have more than one series, so the author won't matter, it's the series that matters. If you have a book in mind, the bookshelf is the easiest way to see if it's been chosen before. You can put the books in title order and if there's a date started/finished that's when it was a group read.

Alice - what's the author of the month top level?

message 37: by Meg (new)

Meg (makeli2) | 1534 comments I have my choices for April ready. I didn't find them to have been used in the last three years but lmk if I misread the lists.

Job-related theme: Sherry Harris
Series #1: Sea Glass Saloon
From Beer to Eternity #1: Kindle Unlimited (KU)/ Kindle 5.99/Library all formats

Series #2: Garage Sale
Tagged for Death #1: KU/Kindle 1.99/Library Hoopla audio, Overdrive & Hoopla ebooks

Reader choice: Laura Durham - Annabelle Archer series
Better Off Wed #1: KU/Kindle 2.99/Library Hoopla audio
It also appears to be available via Libby. I haven't mastered how to navigate that yet to figure out what formats, though. (I'll take the old Overdrive navigation any day!)

Keep in mind that Kindle pricing is today's price.

Helen (helennn) | 1020 comments I’ll take the Religious Sleuth topic for September, and nominate the Rev Annabelle books by Alison Golden. The first one is Death at the Café (Reverend Annabelle Dixon #1) by Alison Golden .
My second choice also have a religious sleuth, but are somewhat more serious. Richard Coles, Canon Clement books. There are only two so far, the first is Murder Before Evensong (Canon Clement, #1) by Richard Coles
