Magic Treehouse series for me! My mom used to read them before bed. As a teenager, The Hunger Games definitely reignited a love for books.

message 2: by Sam :) (new)

Sam :) (_samjreads_) I loved the Boxcar Children, the Animal Ark books, and a few of the Narnia books growing up! Once I hit middle school I thought reading was agonizingly boring (thank you ADHD for helping with that). Daniel Silva’s latest book, Portrait of an Unknown Woman, got me back into reading this year, and now I’ve been eating books up so fast.

Kendall Kerr (bandlekerr) | 1 comments I remember being obsessed with Matched, the first book in a science fiction trilogy, when I was in 3rd grade and being like “oh my god my favorite genre is definitely gonna be science fiction” and it still is (kinda tied with Fantasy). I ate those books up.

message 4: by JoJo (new)

JoJo Gervais | 2 comments the twilight series introduced me to owning my own books and continue reading, but it was the magic tree house that got me started in reading.

message 5: by Molli (new)

Molli McLeod | 3 comments I honestly can't remember I read all the time when I was younger until I fell out of it in high school. Though this past spring I got back into my love of reading with A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair and now I have a full-on book obsession.

message 6: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 3 comments It wasn't until the last 4 or 5 years that I really got into reading. My friend's mom had a massive box of Nora Roberts books and she brought them for a summer of camping and I dove right in. The Three Sisters Island series snagged me and I started my journey down the fantasy/romance rabbit hole and now it's grown into so much more. Reading has become my safe haven and escape. It's so much easier to deal with emotions and problems in a book as they just move right along as you read. ;)

message 7: by Amelie (new)

Amelie Wigg | 2 comments I couldn’t read until I was 10 but when I did start reading the Books I do remember reading were the Rainbow Magic Series by Daisy Meadows and the Our Australian Girl Series by various authors. The books that made me fall in love with reading, though, were The Selection by Keira Cass and the Delirium trilogy by Lauren Oliver.

message 8: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 12 comments I was obsessed with Holes (way before the movie). I read that book so many times. Such a good story with amazing characterization, plot, and life lessons. I could just get lost in it.

message 9: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Wallace The Hunger Games series really made me start reading like crazy. Such a good story line with fantasy, adventure, romance. It’s got it all.

when i was little, my parents always used to read the magic tree house books to me and it was my favorite part of every day. the first, distinct memory i have of being absolutely immersed into a fictional world in a book i read on my own was the percy jackson series.

message 11: by Adélie (new)

Adélie As a kid I’d say these very old big fairytale books my grandma had which had been handed to her by her grandma. They had painted illustrations of magical worlds and it smelled so old. And it was too heavy and big for me to hold. It was just the most amazing thing. It looked like a spell book from a movie. It had creepy fairytales but with romance in it. I blame my grandma for my tendency to read Stephen King, Anne Rice, and romance novels lmao

message 12: by Alina (new)

Alina Mistuloff A series of unfortunate events

message 13: by Sezzy (new)

Sezzy | 2 comments Twilight! New Moon was the first book that I could not put down. I read that book in one day.
This was such a long time ago (over 15 years ago) but I have that series to thank for my love of reading, especially fantasy.
And I have always kept those books on my shelf as a reminder.

message 20: by Auston (new)

Auston Jenkins (anabolicauthor) The Invisible Man by Herbert Wells

message 21: by S.A (new)

S.A Reidman (sareidman) My own conscious moment of falling in love with books: I was 13 or 14 and I remember walking into the public library and asking the librarian for a specific history book my teacher recommended we read. As I was passing I got sidetracked by all the shelves, started exploring and picked up 3 books that I was probably too young to read but they opened my eyes to the world of literature for enjoyment and critical thinking for the overthinker (moi):

1. Solomon Gursky Was Here, Mordecai Richler
2. The Son of Laughter, Frederick Buechner
3. The God of Small Things, Arundhati Roy (I had no business reading this book at that age but no one was "guarding" the book aisles)

message 22: by samantha (new)

samantha | 2 comments The Book Thief! I think I read it when I was 15 on holiday and I was obsessed.

message 23: by TymDoll.Carter (new)

Raquel Henry | 2 comments Percy Jackson The Lightning Thief and the Twilight Series got me into reading!

message 26: by Baylyn (new)

Baylyn | 6 comments The very first were the Boxcar children and Magic Treehouse books. I would get them from the library at school on Monday and stay up late reading when I got home. As an adult, ACOTAR recently reignited my love for reading after a few years of thinking I shouldn’t read fantasy anymore because I’m an adult😂

message 27: by ♡Addison♡ (new)

♡Addison♡ (cayleighstern) | 5 comments I read the boxcar kids and magic tree house books when I was little and never stopped reading but what made me want more and made me feel like I was in a new world created by someone else with the help of my imagination was The Thing With Feathers by McCall Hoyle

message 28: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 10 comments When I was younger it was the seekers series but recently Six of Crows duology

message 29: by kirstreads (new)

kirstreads | 13 comments I’ve always read as long as I could, but the first book/series that I can recall that made me LOVE it was the shadow children series. I was HOOKED

message 30: by Candee (new)

Candee | 3 comments When I was little I feel in love with all books from Robert Munsch.
I had a big book with 10 stories in it and read it so much the book was falling apart. I adored reading all throughout elementary and middle school.
I fell out of love with reading for a long time, but I think it was due to the fact that I didn’t have time to read stories that I truly enjoyed.
A few years out of college one of my friends lended me her nook password and told me to read Throne of Glass.
I finished it and all ACOTAR in about three months.
Haven’t stopped reading since!

message 31: by Vaughn (new)

Vaughn (vanteml) | 3 comments So there was this one book series I read as a kid, it was one of the first books I borrowed from a library after seeing it in a little corner of the middle grade section. It was 13 Treasures series by Michelle Harrison. It was the first kiss of fantasy I had and I absolutely dived into reading after I read this. Mystery, fantasy, wicked little fairies, and friendship.

message 32: by Ceri (new)

Ceri Lynch As a child i had the C.S Lewis set so obviously i was in love with the lion and the witch in the wardrobe. All things, fantasy and romance have my heart.

message 33: by Clemmie (new)

Clemmie Mannell | 1 comments This is going to sound wild but it was Ella Enchanted!! I picked it up in second grade and couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t put it down… I’ve definitely figured it out since then but the spark has never gone away!

♡ Sofia ♡ (hiatus) | 3 comments The Land of the Stories- I read it for the first time when I was 10 ya eras old, and I love it! I know that is a book for young people, anyway I recommended for young readers .

message 35: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 12 comments I have three key points in my life where books drew me back in when I had a reading slump. As a child, I got into reading with Holes (before the movie even happened!!) and of course Harry Potter. In high school, I got back into reading for fun with Twilight. I then didn't read much in college/grad school but once I read A Court of Thorns during 2020...I haven't stopped reading since!!

message 36: by Cayman (new)

Cayman Warrior Cat series in middle school!! Then it turned to Hunger Games, then I stoped for a few years and A Court of Thorns and Roses threw me back into the reading universe!!

message 37: by Kate (new)

Kate Series of Unfortunate Events in 3rd grade. I think it was my first introduction to any kind of dark themes, and I loved all the new words with the definitions right there! We had an assignment where we had to complete a bingo card with different prompts (non-fiction, over X number of pages, etc). The goal was just to get a bingo of 5 in a row, but I completed all 25 prompts! Soon after, I fell in love with the Percy Jackson series and the fantasy genre.

message 38: by Zephyr (new)

Zephyr | 12 comments My first book series that got me into reading was His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman. I still go back and read the series every now and then. It’s also the books that just opened up fantasy for me. But I also love how rereading the series as an adult, it was like I was discovering a whole other side to this series.
Love love love it, and loved all the worlds and possibilities, my imagination would run wild and I’ve never looked back: still obsessed with fantasy now :)

message 39: by Jeana (new)

Jeana Sweat | 1 comments The Hobbit. My love of fantasy and dragons stems for Tolkiens work. The Inheritance Cycle and A Song of Ice and Fire have major roles in my love of books since high school. I've had trouble in my adult life with reading due to ADD but 8 months ago I got back into reading because of ACOTAR and got into spicy books because of ACOSF. I'm two books into TOG and love it!!

message 40: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Santana | 2 comments Oh myyyyy. NANCY DREW 🕵️‍♀️ I was around 11/12 when I first read The Secret of the Old Clock and that was it, never stopped reading from there! 💜

message 41: by Anjel (new)

Anjel | 2 comments I read The Boxcar Children when I was about 6/7 and it was the first series of books that I can remember not being able to put down. But it was the Harry Potter series at about age 12 that had me hooked on fantasy/magical books for life. <3

booksinthecoffin | 2 comments Looking for Alaska. It became my personality for quite a time lol.

message 44: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 2 comments The Harry Potter series were the first books I couldn’t put down. I read them kinda late (I think when I was 18-19) but I honestly loved the Hogwarts setting. I only got back into reading again when Fourth wing released, which has now send me on a fantasy romance craze :))

message 45: by Annette (new)

Annette Beatwell (annetteb) | 2 comments I read the usual children's books when I was younger, and since I'm old this would have been Enid Blyton and her like. But the book that really did it was The Lord of The Rings. I was about 10 when I read it and haven't stopped reading since.

message 46: by Lunar.latte (new)

Lunar.latte | 1 comments I started reading seriously this year. The book that got me into it was A court of mist and fury, still love that book.

message 47: by Averie (new)

Averie | 6 comments Twilight lol! I was in 5th grade when I read the first book and was obsessed in middle school and high school. NGL it is still a comfort read.

message 48: by Abby (new)

Abby Goldsmith (abby_goldsmith) I've always been a reader. The earliest books I loved, I can still remember, were Artie the Smartie and The Wizard of Oz. I read those when I was 6!

In grade school, I read a lot of John Bellairs, R.L. Stine, Lois Duncan, and William Sleator.

I discovered Stephen King when I was 11 years old and moved on to adult books.

message 49: by Lou (new)

Lou (luc07) | 16 comments I loved the Whatever After series by Sarah Mlynowski when I was a kid, this and the Lost series by Cindy Callaghan were my everything. TBH I still have the collections lol

For a while when I was a bit older I read strictly murder mystery books (a cannon event I've heard) but The Siren by Keira Cass as well as The Jewel by Amy Ewing got me into fantasy and now I'm a romantasy fanatic

message 50: by Maixpaix (new)

Maixpaix Harry Potter. Didn't really read as a kid, and I was already a teenager when HP was released, so yeah, later bloomer I guess. I'm making up for it now, though.
