A book with flames on the cover or in the title (because a movie "23" was made about hacker Karl Koch who burned to death - possibly suicide - at the age of 23) - LOL this is such a reach, but it would still make a good category!!

In the spirit of full disclosure, the only books I had in mind when I came up with this wacky prompt were A Separation A Separation by Katie Kitamura and The Serpent The Serpent (Atlan Saga, Vol 1 of 5) by Jane Gaskell (and I can't seem to add that specific edition to the Listopia right now). I'm still not completely sure what I'll read for this one.

But here's a Listopia!!

I enjoyed it also, as well as at least two of my co-corkers

Bea | 648 comments I have been trying to read The Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley all year. I think this will be my choice.

I enjoyed that! It had suspense, a touch of romance, a touch of mystery, and the barest smidge of magical realism.

Brandon Harbeke | 696 comments Excelsior: Forged in Fire is the first book I own that comes to mind. It's an excellent Star Trek book about friendship, Klingons, and Captain Sulu.

Jennifer W | 1822 comments I might go with a book IN flames on on the cover. :)
Out of the Flames The Remarkable Story of a Fearless Scholar, a Fatal Heresy, and One of the Rarest Books in the World by Lawrence Goldstone

Although it doesn't truly fit the category as worded, it definitely fits!
The Library Book by Susan Orlean has been in my house for several years and I have yet to read it. It is all about the 1986 fire in the Los Angeles Public Library and what had to be done in the aftermath to save as many books as possible. It was fascinating to hear her summary and I'm excited for a truly good opportunity to read it--finally!!

There is a little flame on the cover so it counts. I really enjoyed that book so hopefully you will too.

I have that book planned for #25 text on cover. I didn't notice the little flame!

Oh, my! You are so correct! I didn't have my copy in hand, and totally overlooked it on the Goodreads cover image! YAY! So it does fit!!

I can't imagine it won't be fascinating! She was describing her inability to actually "burn" a book so that she could watch and take notes for accurate descriptive detail for her writing. She just wasn't able to set fire to an intact book...so her husband did it for her! LOL

Thank you for making me feel so much better! I hadn't noticed it either! :)

Erica | 1256 comments Yes the section in the book where she describes books burning was upsetting to read.

Ha! Ha! I don't know if it's good or bad that we both missed that! :)

Ron | 2708 comments For this one I'll probably go with Scorched Earth: How the Fires in Yellowstone Changed America.

GR doesn't have this book but the cover shows, while not directly a fire, it shows the smoke from a fire. Plus it's got the words 'Fire' and 'Scorched' so I figure I could go a tad that route too.

Tales from the Drag Strip Memorable Stories from the Greatest Drag Racer of All Time (Tales from the Team) by Don Garlits Tales from the Drag Strip: Memorable Stories from the Greatest Drag Racer of All Time

Also covers the athlete/sport prompt in general challenge...

LeahS | 491 comments I read Songs for the Flames by Juan Gabriel Vásquez, a book of short stories set mainly in Colombia.

And that's the challenge completed. It was very enjoyable - thanks, Nadine.
