Dione Basseri (kitsuneheart) | 28 comments I'm so bad at finishing a series, so this is GREAT push to finally do "Redemptor" by Jordan Ifueko!

Ooh, same and same.

message 5: by Alex (new)

Alex (papercraftalex) I'm really hoping to read This is How You Lose the Time War

message 6: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabethlk) | 364 comments There's so many to choose from that are already on my TBR. I'm considering Pet, Other Words for Home, Elatsoe, A Master of Djinn, Sorrowland, White Smoke, Squad, Root Magic, This is How You Lose the Time War... I have no idea how I'm going to narrow it down honestly.

message 7: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Morrison | 71 comments I’ve already read quite a few of these so it seems like anything I pick should be right up my reading alley.

message 8: by Betty (new)

Betty | 17 comments Going with Race to the Sun

message 9: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy I've been meaning to read Sorrowland for a while, so this is a good place to slot it in.

Me, too!

message 11: by Judith (new)

Judith Rich | 125 comments As someone who struggles with sci-fi, fantasy AND horror, I'm delighted to see the categories for best novella and best novelette!

I read Flowers for the Sea last year for Read Harder and it would fit if anyone is trying to do the bonus task, as I think the author identifies as non-binary (please do correct me if I'm wrong).

I read A Dead Djinn in Cairo a couple years ago and loved it, I really want to see what else the author has done in the same world!

message 14: by Jennie (new)

Jennie (salmonreads) | 1 comments I'm going to read While Dragons Claim the Sky by Jen Brown for FIYAH Literary Magazine, or maybe listen to it via Pod Castle.

message 15: by Robin (new)

Robin (grayeyed) | 70 comments I thought this one would be hard to pick for, but I saw Black Sun and that's already on my TBR!

message 17: by Bonnie G. (new)

Bonnie G. (narshkite) | 1413 comments I am finishing up Riot Baby for this, and I don't use books for more than one challenge, but if you do this novella fits for this challenge, an Ignyte winner, and also for #7 an audiobook written and read by an author of color, #23 social horror, and #9 an independently published book by a BIPOC author (assuming we are counting Tor as an indie.)

message 18: by Kristi (new)

Kristi | 1 comments I just finished Elatsoe. It was amazing!

Tor is one of the leading publishers of sci-fi and fantasy in the US, as well as being owned by Macmillan, so I definitely wouldn't consider it to be an indie publisher.

message 20: by Carole (new)

Carole Lehto | 48 comments I am reading A Master of Djin to complete this task. An alternate universe Cairo in 1912.

message 21: by Ron (new)

Ron I discovered: New Suns: Original Speculative Fiction by People of Color so I'll get it at some point this year.

Briana (brianaisgoingplaces) | 31 comments This is a bunch of genres I don't usually read, so I'll be branching out a bit here. I saw Elatsoe and A Snake Falls to Earth on an earlier thread. Others really seemed to like, and they sounded interesting, so I think I'll read one of them for this prompt.

Legendborn is on my tbr, but I've been avoiding it a bit bc of the genre, so this is a good opportunity to maybe try that one as well.

Riot Baby sounds like it will be really interesting.
Emergency Skin, And This Is How to Stay Alive, The Empress of Salt and Fortune and The Future Library are nice and short so that may be the deciding factor for me.

https://www.tor.com/2020/03/11/the-ni...
http://strangehorizons.com/fiction/on... are two I found accessible online

Finally, Sorrowland sounds really cool, but I think I'm too much of a wimp to read it

message 23: by Elspeth (new)

Elspeth (elspethm) | 51 comments I didn't realize this award has only been around for a few years - a very niche option for RH. I don't like sci fi that much, and having only a few options is a real pain.

I am already reading Parable of the Sower: A Graphic Novel Adaptation for a different challenge, so I'll use that for this one too. They won best comics team.

Megan | 8 comments The nominees for this year have finally been announced! https://ignyteawards.fiyahlitmag.com/...

message 26: by Joanna (new)

Joanna | 25 comments I read Root Magic for this prompt, but if I hadn't, I could have used The Marvellers (one of this year's nominees), since I read that earlier this year.

message 27: by Mandie (new)

Mandie (mystickah) | 218 comments I read The Empress of Salt and Fortune for this prompt.

message 28: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabethlk) | 364 comments I expected to get to one of the previous Ignyte nominees first, but I ended up reading one of this year's finalists, Even Though I Knew the End by C.L. Polk. I loved it.

message 29: by Azuki (last edited Sep 21, 2023 08:01PM) (new)

Azuki | 14 comments I read Babel: An Arcane History, which, not surprisingly, was an excellent read.
