Use this Topic to discuss books you are reading or that fit the 7th Scavenger Hunt task.

Task 7: Read a book that can be classified as genre fiction (e.g. science fiction, mystery, romance, fantasy, horror, etc.). (Contributed by SaraSian)

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 104 comments I've just read The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and am currently counting it for this prompt and the "not a novel" one so I may end up replacing it for one or the other down the road.

I have that book also.

Nocturnalux | 465 comments I'm probably going with Neuromancer for this one but if anyone knows of a fantasy or sci-fi written by a woman, do let me know (apart from Mary Shelley, Ursula le Guin and Doris Lessing as I've already read their Boxall entries).

Interview with the Vampire is the only other one that springs to mind.

Already read it, but thanks, it may help others.

I think I'll go with The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Rin Manley (rinamanley) | 2 comments I always have been a fan of this genre. But I just added Stephen King's The Outsider into my TBR.

Stephen King is one of my favorites, but remember books used for this Challenge must come from the Boxall list. The only Stephen King novel on the list is The Shining.

Margaret Atwood writes fantasy and science fiction.

H(A)PPY by Nicola Barker is science fiction.

Bharati Mukherjee's The Holder of the World involves time travel.

Sexing the Cherry by Jeanette Winterson is often categorized as fantasy or magical realism. (It's not on the Boxall list, but her Frankissstein: A Love Story is on my TBR list.)

The Temple of My Familiar by the amazing Alice Walker is magical realism.

Beloved by Toni Morrison is also shelved as magical realism.

Nights at the Circus by Angela Carter is also magical realism, and her The Passion of New Eve is science fiction.

Isabel Allende's Of Love and Shadows is categorized as magical realism.

The Museum of Unconditional Surrender by Dubravka Ugrešić includes a "a dream-like narrative in which a circle of women friends are visited by an angel."

And P.S. Neuromancer is excellent!
