Abi (booksa144) | 54 comments Quarter 1 Progress Update:

20 books read across 4 languages. Lowered my yearly reading goal from 100 to 75 books since I've been reading an average of 6 books a month. Hoping to raise it back up at the next quarterly check-in, but time will tell.

Still, I'm fairly satisfied with how my reading has gone so far this year, all things considered. I'm enjoying myself and have read some good books. Here's hoping that that continues! I would also like to be able to read more easily in Mandarin by the end of the next quarter.

Abi (booksa144) | 54 comments Quarter 2 Progress Update:

Summer is here, and thus my reading has drastically increased! I raised my reading goal back up to 100 books.

As of 6/30, I've read 92 books read across 4 languages, with 55% read in English, 40% read in Japanese, 3% in Mandarin, and 1% in Spanish.

I've completed my TBR goal (24 books) and am at 30 TBR books read this year! I hope to complete Mt. Vancouver if possible.

In my last progress update, I mentioned that I wanted to be able to read more easily in Mandarin by now. I'm happy to report that while I still have a ways to go, I have improved! I hope to reach 3,000 pages read in total in Mandarin by the end of the summer.

I'm very satisfied with how my reading has gone this year. I'll complete my yearly reading goal in July, my TBR goal is completed, and I'm on track to complete my language-specific reading goals by the end of the year.

Abi (booksa144) | 54 comments Quarter 3 Progress Update:

I've reached 121 books read. I completed my yearly reading goal in July, but I won't be officially upping it since I'll be very busy for the rest of the year.

I'm on track to meet my Japanese reading goal, with 9/12 novels read as of today and 45 books read overall. In addition, I've read 71 books in English, 4 in Mandarin, and 1 in Spanish.

I don't anticipate much reading for the next few months outside of academic works and the occasional novel for school, but we'll see! I might surprise myself.

Abi (booksa144) | 54 comments Quarter 4 Progress Update:

Well, that's a wrap! I read a total of 160 books this year, far exceeding my reading goal, which is satisfying. The numbers were almost exactly 50% in English and 50% in Japanese (mostly thanks to the manga binge reading I did at the end of the year), with a teeny amount of books in Mandarin and Spanish.

While I definitely bought books, I read 32 TBR books and reread 20 books I already owned, which is nice. I also had ZERO 1-star reads!!

All in all, despite facing some changes in my life and being really busy, especially in the last half of the year, I'm very happy with my reading this year. It's particularly satisfying to see how much I've been reading in Japanese, since it's a lot of fun and my reading skills have progressed a ton in the past couple of years.

In 2024, I look forward to making a dent in my ever-growing TBR pile and trying to read more in Mandarin and a bit in Korean in addition to my English and Japanese reading! I might also try and deliberately read from my Goodreads want-to-read list, since I add books and barely look at the list to find new ones, oops.
