Reading with Comrades discussion

hey y’all! i’m sorry i haven’t had the capacity to keep up with the monthly reading themes this year.

i would still love to hear from everyone what your favorite reads were in 2022 (fiction or nonfiction, doesn’t have to be political!)

that being said, do we want to try it again for 2023, or something different?

and moreover, what are your 2023 reading goals? any new releases you’re really looking forward to?

my fav reads this year were , circe by madeleine Miller, convenience store woman by sayaka murata , medea by euripides, yeah femcel-ish stuff .

as for leftist theory , I liked the little red book , state and revolution which I plan on rereading , I intend on diving in more theory in 2023 , like imperialism the highest stage of capitalism, women race and class, orientalism , and more philosophical books that are awaiting me in my bookshelf(derrida , foucault, hegel), and also fatema el mernissi books which I have , she's a moroccan feminist theorist very well known , also I plan on reading Mrs. dalloway by woolf which I also have , yeah .

I'm looking forward to reading South to America, by Imani Perry, which just won the National Book Award

I don't follow what's to be released and trust on word-of-mouth or critics' reviews before I read a book. Even my favorite authors have written flops...

I’m a little late to this but my favorite reads in terms of politics last year were definitely Malcom X’s autobiography & Albert Szymanski’s “Human Rights in the Soviet Union.” As for 2023 goals I really hope to get into reading more theory, esp Lenin.

Better late than never right!

2022 was a crazy year for me, but also one of the best catalysts for encouraging my personal reading was starting my position at my local public library.

My favorite reads fic and nonfic this last year were;
-My reread of Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison Invisible Man
-My read of Virtue and Terror by Maximilien Robespierre Virtue and Terror
- I also read all of Stephen Kotkin's Stalin Biography (vol.1-2) ( Stalin: Volume I: Paradoxes of Power, 1878-1928 )( Stalin: Waiting for Hitler 1929-1941 ) so when finished I could jump into Grover Furr's reply and rebuttal to Kotkin ( Stalin: Waiting for ... the Truth. )

My goal this year is to read and log more books than I have in the past, trying my best to give a review when possible. I want to increase my grasp on key theoretical works by revolutionary authors. I plan on reading texts new to me (like those written by Stalin, Mao, and Che) and revisiting essentials I need to brush up on (like Lenin and Engels). I also want to not burn myself out with heavy reading and sprinkle some light and noteworthy fiction, from authors like Steinbeck.
