Sam (aramsamsam) | 94 comments In which I put the right foot forward in reducing my tbr, discovering new authors, and rereading old favourites.

For 2023, I mixed some of my 2022 challenge tasks with some new ones and adjusted the numbers of books according to how I did last year. I want to keep all goals achievable, but challenging. Some goals I let go, like pages to read and the Dragons&Jetpacks Challenge, even though I will still take part in it. The main idea is to see how far I get and maybe try to complete as many tasks as I can without becoming too competetive. It's only me I'm cometing with, after all.

(A) Got Shelf?: Complete all unread books you own.
(B) Dustcatcher: Read 10 out of the 50 oldest books on your Goodreads TBR shelf. July
(C) Soundwave Rider: Listen to 24 audiobooks. August
(D) Support Your Local Dealer: Read 30 items from the library. November
(E) Reading In A Hurry: Read 12 short stories or anthologies.
(F) Reignite The Flame: Reread 10 books you own and have read only once before.
(G) But, Seriously: Read 8 books in series you've already started. June
(H) Have We Met?: Read 7 new non-sequels by authors you've read before. July
(I) Pleased To Read You: Read 20 books by new-to-you authors. July
(J) Would That I Were A Bibliopole: Read 1 book from the 1600s or before. January
(K) Obstinate Reader: Read 2 books from the 1700s.
(L) Assume The Slantindicular: Read 6 books from the 1800s.
(M) Mere Fandangle: Read 12 books from the 1900s. April
(N) Post-Post-Post-Modern: Read 30 books from the 2000s. September
(O) Quota: Read 36 books by female authors. October
(P) It's A Spectrum!: Read 10 LGBT+ books/stories. September
(Q) Facts For Future: Read 10 non-fiction books.
(R) Globetrotter: Read 20 books that are not originally written in English.
(S) D&J Catch-up: Read 5 books for the D&J Catch-up Challenge. September

I finally managed to read the whole Don Quixote.

Sam (aramsamsam) | 94 comments Well, hello. I came around to dust off the shelves and update this challenge, because it is still going.
At the moment, a number of tasks are close to being fulfilled. I'm particularly glad how many of my long-time tbr books I have read this year (currently 15 out of the 50 eldest). My weak point this year is to read older books, which is something I thought could never apply to me. I studied that stuff, I like classics in general. Yet, I have been focusing on other reading. Ya can't have it all!

Sam (aramsamsam) | 94 comments End of year update: I'm happy to report that I completed most of my tasks. Since they were never actually meant for completing but rather as sources for inspiration, I have to admit that I got pretty competitive over the months. But I tried not to become too obsessed.
Open tasks:
Read all of my TBR: I wasn't really going to get THAT particular badge, but I got pretty close. And then, christmas happened :D
Read 12 short stories/anthologies: I finished 7 titles. Since this was a super easy task, I am a bit baffled, but I know I focussed more on other areas so this one didn't get much attention.
Reread 10 books I own but have only read once: I managed 5, but cheated a bit since I opted for the audiobooks instead of my copies in four out of five ... the turnout for this area wouldn't have been great either way. This is one task I want to focus on next year.
Read two books that were published before 1800: I read one in January and never returned for a second pick. It happens.
Read six books that were published in the 1800s: I sucked at this. 0 books read from that century.
Read ten non-fiction books: I read nine, so I'm happy.
Read 20 books not originally published in English: 15 books read. This one astonishes me the most. I had no idea my reading list was this homogenous. I do want to work on this in the coming years and diversify my reading.
