Bingo Reading Challenge 2023

1. Can you count the same book for several categories or can you use it only once?
No, it can only count for one category, even if it fits many.
2. How do I paste the picture of the Bingo card into my post?
After clicking on the link, your Bingo card is generated. Here you can either save the picture by right clicking on it, or take a screenshot of it.
Either way, you now need to take the image file (most likely a jpeg) and convert it into a url.
Go onto the website https:// imgbb.com and upload your file.
Now copy the url that is produced, e.g. http:// imgbb.com/a/img921/9567/CEBN7M.jpg and go back to your post on this discussion thread.
At the top right hand corner of your post is a sentence: (some html is ok)
If you click this, a dropdown option list appears. You want to copy the one for inserting an image, pasting the url link you generated in the space provided:
<*img src="https://www.goodreads.com/image..." width="40" height="100" alt="description"/*>
3. Does category 7 - a book in another language- have to have been written in any language or just not English?
The book must have been written in another language from the one you would normally read books in: if you normally read books in French, for example, then it would need to have been written in a different language.

3. Does category 7 - a book in another language- have to have been written in any language or just not English?
The book must have been written in another language from the one you would normally read books in: if you normally read books in French, for example, then it would need to have been written in a different language.
I still have question about it. If I usually read in English, should I read a book in French or can it be a French book translated to English? :D

I will say in my defense however that last month I read Odes to Common Things, poems in side-by-side Spanish and English, and kept teasing out bits from the original Spanish to compare the two renditions. Poetry is, of course, very hard to translate well.

... I just found a Wikipedia article (List of books banned by governments), maybe you could also use one of those. :)

Oh! Well that's easy then. :)

What is a Guilty Pleasure read? I don't feel guilty reading any book and I don't know how to deal with that prompt.
Cookbook? Does anyone actually read a cookbook from start to end or do you mean a cookbook from which you've cooked a few recipes?
Nostalgic memoir? I don't get that, how does one know if a memoir turns out being nostalgic before you've read it? Shall it be nostalgic for me or for the person who wrote it? And what kind of nostalgia? Maybe I'm overthinking this, the only memoirs I'm planning to read this year is Gandhi's autobiography. Could I count that for this prompt?
Thankyou 🙏

I'll set my mind for a full "BIGNO", let's see how far I'll come 🙂

Each category is a prompt to get you reading, and they are sometimes broad on purpose to make it as applicable to each individual. Let me try and show you to help:
A guilty pleasure could be a book or a topic you wouldn't want people to see you reading on the bus.
A cookbook could be a book you want to read cover to cover or cook recipes from.
Gandhi's autobiography could be a nostalgic memoir if it makes you feel that way, it's very personal.
Please remember this is not a competition but a challenge, it's a fun way to see how you read and gets you thinking and connecting topics and books.

Each category is a prompt to get you reading, and they are sometimes broad on purpose to make it as applicable to each individual. Let me try..."
Thank you, I'm very well aware that this is s challenge. I usually participate in many, many in different groups on GoodReads. 🙂
My question about the guilty pleasure is what I said - I don't feel guilty reading anything so I wouldn't be embarrassed on the bus or any other place. That ' s what I meant. I don't care what other people think whether I read a book by a Nobel Price laureate and some people call me a snob or if I read a crime novel and people think I'm reading trash.
That's why I don't know what to choose for that prompt.
Thankyou for your explanation about the cook books.
When it comes to memoirs or autobiographies it will be a bit difficult. I wouldn't read one because it could make me nostalgic. However the one I mentioned by Gandhi may provoke some nostalgia anyway, since it will remind me of the time I studied International Relations some twenty-five years ago and I wrote a highly rated essay about Gandhi. Does that work?
But please help me suggest a guilty genre? I could read a book about sexuality or a radical political book or a children's book in public without being the slightest embarrassed.

I see what you are saying about not feeling guilty about anything you read. It doesn't need to be a sensationalist topic, but it could be from the three topics you suggested - sexuality, radical politics, or a children's book - or you could brainstorm what guilt brings up for you and then select a book from that. For example, it could be the inverse; I feel guilty spending time watching a lot of YouTube videos, so perhaps I could choose a book about time management.
What you described about Gandhi and your connection to your studies could fall under nostalgia, especially if it takes you back to former times.

I see what you are saying about not feeling guilty about anything you read. It doesn't need to be a sensationalist topic, but it could be from the three topics you suggested - sexuality..."
Lol, spot on! Time management! I'm absolutely and overwhelmingly lousy at time management. Not because of YouTube, (maybe due to GoodReads though 😉).
That was a very good suggestion - to choose a book with a theme of something I'm a bit ashamed of considering my habits in every day life. Really good idea indeed. Thank you so much 🙏
(I actually got an idea. I'm a bit embarrassed that I have NOT yet read a few books. Especially since I love the movies and they are among the many different genres that I love to read. I think I am the only person my age (52) that still haven't read neither The Lord of the Rings-books nor the Harry Potter-books. Well maybe not the only one but the only one who loves sagas and fantasy.
Could that count?)

I'm happy you liked my suggestion, looking forward to what you will choose!
