I started Killers of a Certain Age a few days ago. I'm betting you'll finish it before me. I am enjoying this book.

I will also be starting two long-term reads.
I decided to read Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra Don Quixote I knew I owned a copy, but couldn't find it, so I also had an e-copy through Apple Books. The e-copy is 2160 pages. I did the math and figured I roughly had to cover 6 pages a day.
This morning I found my paperback copy. It was in a different bookcase from what I thought. There are only 765 pages in this copy. I haven't done the math yet, but I think I'll read this copy.
My other longer term read (it ends up being an intermittent rather than a consistent read) will be Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury Dandelion Wine.

I never make any book resolutions but it's time for me to ramp up my reading time and to rekindle, if not longer reviews, at least a few words about my feelings.

You all have such great suggestions. I love reading what you're reading. Happy New Year and as always, Happy Reading!

Never good to hear about anyone not feeling well. I hope you find the cause of your headache and that you will feel better soon. In the meantime, are you able to listen to an audiobook? I don't know if that would make your headache worse.

message 26: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 117 comments Given what I was going through earlier a headache isn’t so bad. Actually I have started reading, specifically a volume on British war picture libraries, a form of comic book particular to Europe. You can actually find some other listed in the Goodreads database. They were published for a number of genres but war/military was the most popular. Sadly only D. C. Thompson’s Commando seems to exist.

message 35: by Julie (new)

Julie M (woolyjooly) | 314 comments Just finished The Firekeeper's Daughter, an excellent story by a young Ojibwe writer. Genre YA, contemporary story about a meth ring operating on a reservation nearsh Sault Ste. Marie, MI. But about so much more! Told through the voice of MC, Daunis, a 19-y.o. woman who is trying to solve the mysterious death of her respected elder uncle, biology teacher/naturalist, David, who had awakened her passions for tribal healing methods and relationships within her Firekeeper family. A plot driven character rich read!

I pre-ordered Spare as a Christmas present for my wife, who is a real fan of the Royal Family. Told her it was coming after Christmas only to get told she wasn't interested in the book. Ending up cancelling the order, got my refund and now have to figure out what to give her, ah well. Mind you cancelling the order was an interesting process.

I think gremlins are at work. I could have sworn I just reported this stuff in the past couple of days, but it's not here.

Well, I now see that I dropped the ball again. We're still posting in January and we're close to the end of February. Ah, well.
I finished listening to How Not to Drown in a Glass of Water by Angie Cruz Sarah StrohmeyerHow Not to Drown in a Glass of Water. I've moved on to The Areas of My Expertise An Almanac of Complete World Knowledge Compiled with Instructive Annotation and Arranged in Useful Order by John Hodgman The Areas of My Expertise: An Almanac of Complete World Knowledge Compiled with Instructive Annotation and Arranged in Useful Order which, unfortunately, is an abridgment, but still incredibly humorous.

C. John Kerry (cjkerry) | 117 comments I am sure people can relate to this. I was in the bedroom talking to the wife when I looked down at my night table. Lo and behold there is a book there that I have been unable to find for ages, a Murder She Wrote mystery that I want to finish and get off my Currently Reading shelf. Apparently it had fallen down between the night table and the bed. I was sure I had brought it out to the living are but apparently not. Now if the baseball book that disappeared a couple of years ago would turn up I will be happy.

It takes so little to make you happy!

At the beginning of this year I was scouring my living room shelves for my copy of Don Quixote. I was convinced it was there, but I could never find it. Just about 1/1/23 I decided to check the bookcase at the end of my bed. Voila! I'm approaching 50% read.
