What books are you reading this year?

Alice (alicegrimm) | 15 comments I may need some suggestions… I know I will try to read Brandon Sanderson but I need some yummy heros.

Debbie Baldwin | 40 comments The Fine Print Extended Epilogue by Lauren Asher I'm starting this tonight. I have high hopes. Will keep you posted!

DemetraP | 58 comments I started Asher by Terry Towers. He killed a guy and she accidentally saw the murder. So he doesn't want to kill her so he kidnaps her and chains her in his basement. That's as far as I've gotten so I don't know how it ends yet.

Asher (Horsemen Mafia Book 2) by Terry Towers

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 63 comments I read my first Sarah J. Maas book last year against my better judgment. And I loved it. So I want to reread House of Earth and Blood and then read House of Sky and Breath this year.

House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City, #1) by Sarah J. Maas House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City, #2) by Sarah J. Maas

Alice (alicegrimm) | 15 comments I really liked the first one and stopped half way through the second. Though they can be very sad or deep in the feels.

Now I’m reading A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas which has been on my TBR pile for awhile.

It’s hard for me to find a catcher book.

I’d force myself to read this free book that I have gotten from Amazon. Killer Instincts (Assassins in Love #1) by Tawna Fenske . I like the best friends theme, but only when it’s the hero and heroine that are best friends. I had decided to get the book, because I was looking for a dangerous bad boy book to read and I like reading about assassins. I don’t want to spoil the book. I didn’t care for it, again, I had forced myself to read it. Why? Because I had saw similarities in the hero and heroine to my characters from my 13 years ongoing writing challenge story that I am doing on this group and is no where near finished.

My characters Vs Tawna’s characters. My story started in 2010, Tawna’s book was published in 2022.

My hero: Cop: Trained killer, bald, has a scar, which is a branded heart on his left pec. Loves to cook, enjoys martial arts. Loves the way that Sanjar snores, which is like a baby. Because of how Nathan treated Sanjar while he and she are dating, he pays Nathan a dangerous bad boy visit.

Tawna’s hero: Dante: Trained killer, bald, has a scar near his temple. Loves to cook, enjoys martial arts. Loves the way that Jen snores. Because of Jen, he pays Johnny a dangerous bad boy visit.

My heroine: Sanjar: Broke up with boyfriend Nathan, because he cheated on her. She wasn’t really into him. Bites her bottom lip and she knows it’s a turn on to Cop. Was kidnapped by Cop and he used handcuffs on her. It’s nothing for cool whip or whipped cream to be in her and Cop’s presence. Cop knows how to be bad with either.

Tawna’s heroine: Broke up with her boyfriend/fiancé Johnny, because he cheated on her. She wasn’t really into him. Bites or lips her bottom lip. Was kidnapped, but not by Dante and handcuffs was used on her, which Dante removed. She baked a cobbler and asked her sister to bring her a can of whipped cream, which her sister does and implies that Jen wanted the whip cream to lick it off Dan’s body.

A few years ago, I’ve read a book by Laura Griffith and in that book, her characters were closed to my favorite IR couple away from my writing, Sam Starrett and Alyssa Locke from Suzanne Brockmann book.

I can see titles being the same, because so many titles are the same, but characters being similar to another author’s or writer’s story send red flags to me. I am not an author, just someone that has been writing for fun for 36 years.

DemetraP | 58 comments It's been difficult to find dangerous heroes lately (at least for me).

An old favorite is Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh. Start with book 1 in the series. Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, #12) by Nalini Singh Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh

DemetraP | 58 comments Hans is an assassin who kills human traffickers. He looks like a Viking with long blond hair. He falls in love with his neighbor and starts breaking into her house and making sure she locked her windows.

The heroine keeps baking cookies and leaving them on her doorstep but she is a terrible baker. He eats every crumb anyway because she cooked for him.

Hans (Alliance, #4) by S.J. Tilly
