First, in the fall of 2023, this diverse collection of books on the censors' hit lists was segregated from the rest of Scholastic's offerings as an opt-OUT box. It was actually an Opt-IN. You had to ask the rep for the "you know... diverse" books.

So why has Vicki Bagget challenged The Very Hungry Caterpillar? And why would anyone listen to her and still allowed her to be an English teacher?

Honestly, if she told me that I could not use The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other picture books by Eric Carle in my classroom, I would laugh at her and tell her to take a flying leap (and would also accept being fired, charged etc.).
