NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11061 comments I clicked on this book on Libby based on the title, knowing nothing about it. It’s a fantasy about a medieval sounding land with wizards that each have a highly specific talent. Mona is 14, and works in her aunt’s bakery, where she tells bread not to burn, and makes gingerbread men cookies dance. She discovers a dead girl in the bakery, and she (and the dead girl’s brother) uncover a plot against magic folk and the city itself. As one of the only wizards left, she is needed to help protect the city from a mercenary army. but how? The fun is trying to figure how she can possibly help defeat an army with baked goods.

Nancy, this sounds like a fun read. I'm going to keep it in mind.

Jgrace | 3935 comments It was a fun audiobook. I'd definitely put it on a list for middle grade readers. Terrific female protagonist, too.

Yes, I agree. It’s more fun than many YA books I read.
