Dana (danarlynn) | 10 comments I don't know if anyone can help me, but a few years ago, I read a book where Darcy keeps trying to convince Bingley to return to Jane, but he is constantly anxious about returning to another 'Angel" Miss C. Something.

Another book I want to find has Elizabeth and Jane deliberately cutting Bingley in London. Anyone recognize these?

Dana

The first one sounds familiar, but I the title eludes me. I think I read it a couple years ago so its at least that old.

abmom | 152 comments In "A Lady's reputation " hy Amy d'orazio, Darcy tries to bring Bingley back to Jane but he doesn't show any interest and gets into a load of trouble and in "More than a pretty face" by Frances Reynolds, Jane cuts Miss Bingley in London. Are these the books you are looking for?

Dana (danarlynn) | 10 comments I think the first one is right!!

MichelleH H | 130 comments Can anyone remember a book in which Elizabeth and Jane have each been married and widowed by the time Bingley and Darcy come to Hartfordshire, and both sisters had been in an abused relationship?

message 7: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 411 comments This one has both Jane and Elizabeth widowed with children. They had married friends who were involved in racing. They both died in an accident. I don't think either were abused in their marriage.

That looks interesting but not the one I was looking for, thanks.

Katie (bookmouse424) | 47 comments Ok, this is a really long shot.

Darcy, Elizabeth, Jane, and maybe Colonel Fitzwilliam (? who may be engaged to Jane?) are on a walk for a picnic by a lake I think or stream. Darcy and Elizabeth are already engaged and disappear to go to a small clearing and anticipate their wedding vows (I don't think it was planned). My brain is also telling me Jane and Colonel Fitzwilliam were also engaged and had already anticipated their vows slightly earlier than this scene.

The CP Odom book was what my mind came up with, too.

message 13: by Katie (new)

Katie (bookmouse424) | 47 comments Thank you! Determination by CP Odom is what I was looking for. LOL The cover even has the Colonel and a lady on a picnic blanket on it.

message 14: by Sam (new)

Sam H. | 828 comments Don't think I read that one. ...aaaaannnnd now I am thinking I probably won't!
LOL

message 15: by Katja (new)

Katja | 439 comments Iirc it was that sort of a consummation that is clear enough to annoy those who want chaste but not explicit enough to satisfy those who want steamy lol

Gawd I love that book. I don't even think about the scenes you mentioned when I think of that book, although it rang a bell. I love Colonel Fitzwilliam in this story. He takes center stage in the Hero dept. in this one didn't he? The consummation scenes are a bit unnecessary and unrealistic, but they also seemed a natural outcome in the way he was writing this, of the slow to understanding between ODC.

Yes that's a good way to describe it LOL

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 600 comments It just so happens that I am reading it right now. I love the large-and-in-charge attitude about our dear Colonel. Heavy sigh.

message 19: by Anne (new)

Anne | 196 comments I have a very, very vague memory of a book where Darcy had been forced into a marriage, not with Anne, but all I remember is the wife being terrible and Darcy refusing to consummate the marriage.

There was such a great description of their house that I remember that.

Unfortunately this was before I was leaving reviews or even stars I think n

wosedwew | 411 comments Mr. Darcy's Pursuit

Caroline succeeds in a compromise and finally Darcy marries her. He refuses to let her in his bed and leaves the country.

This book is no longer at Amazon, but the story is available online. I think the difference is that Caroline gets Darcy very drunk and manipulates him into a wedding night consummation.
That variarion is here:

Linda | 223 comments I read a book a few years ago, I think. In it, Mr. Gardiner is a pawnbroker for the nobility, and Darcy, while at his warehouse, sees a painting of his mother that his uncle pawned. I seem to also remember that Mr. Gardiner was a bit of a tough guy.

message 30: by MichelleH (new)

MichelleH H | 130 comments This so aggravating because I just read this in the past year and a half but cannot find it on any of my lists. In this story Mr Bennet and George Darcy are friends and Darcy and Elizabeth are acquainted from an earlier age and have fallen in love and are promised to each other. Mr Bennet vows to be of whatever service F. Darcy needs in the future but must get home to Longbourn. When Darcy Sr. dies his Fitzwilliam relatives swoop in and take over everything including ingoing and outgoing mail. Darcy's promises to Elizabeth go unmet, letters requesting help go unaswered and it isn't until years later that Elizabeth and Darcy meet again by which time Darcy is very jaded against the Bennets, most especially Elizabeth. Elizabeth is heartbroken. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Anyone remember what the name was?

Adele (delbert59) | 59 comments @Anne. I think the one you are looking for might be Nameless by Julie Cooper. The architecture of Pemberley is important to the plot. The first wife was awful and he wasn’t so much forced as manipulated. Very well written story.

Thank you but it’s the Brenda Webb book mentioned earlier. I can remember Julie’s books fairly well because I’ve read some more than once.

Adele (delbert59) | 59 comments I’m reading a new story by Iris Lim on FF.net. Where Caroline compromises Darcy. I know I have read some other ones. Can you think of them? One of the ones I read had her committing suicide when the marriage turned out not to be as happy as she planned.

Here’s the link to this new one

message 40: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 600 comments I saw that, Adele. Caroline is absolutely horrid. Poor Darcy. I wanted him to threaten her with Scotland [as I've seen in other stories] but he didn't. He was WAY too nice. I can't wait to see what happens.

message 41: by Adele (new)

Adele (delbert59) | 59 comments @JW YES! I was trying to remember a story where she compromised him and he said okay I’ll marry you, you will live on my sheep farm(pig farm?) in Scotland and you’ll get 50£ a year pin money and thanks for your dowry.

Are you thinking of At the Garden Gate: A Pride and Prejudice Variation? After Darcy marries Caroline, he never consumates the marriage. When she finds herself pregnant by her lover, she throws herself down the stairs.

message 43: by wosedwew (new)

wosedwew | 411 comments This one has Darcy threatening Caroline with his treatment of her if he is forced to marry her. I don't know if it's the Scotland cottage or just financial restrictions.

Darcy Vs Bingley

OK, I'm done now.
