Hey, everyone, I wanted to share some news I had just gotten from a discussion on Twitter. It's NOT on new releases - I'll let Valancourt themselves share that news when they're ready - but it is related to the suggestions for their catalog, and I'm sharing this because, while it may be frustrating, I would like to minimize the burden (if any) that such recommendations place on the guys.
I've learned that prices in publishing altogether have increased (most likely spurred on due to worldwide inflation), and it subsequently limits the length of the books that Valancourt is going to be able to publish going forward. From now on, it looks like they won't be able to print books that are over approximately 250 pages for a viable price and recoup the costs, unless they are EXTREMELY RARE books that couldn't be obtained otherwise or in VERY high demand. So, from this point forward, I would kindly suggest that all future suggestions and recommendations for future titles be thoroughly checked to be 250 pages or less, or they will most likely be disqualified. (For instance, 500 or 700+ page books would not be feasible.)
I say this as much for myself as you guys. As you are probably aware, I tend to make long lists of recommendations, and I feel that I might have put undue stress on Valancourt in doing so. I don't want anyone to be disappointed, but I think it's important to be aware of the situation and have reasonable expectations. This will give me pause to consider what I post from now on and curate my suggestions. I don't want to go around waiting with bated breath on whether a recommendation has been considered and then be disappointed or angry or confused when they are passed over - it's not fair to Valancourt, not with all the great work they do to acquire and publish so many good works.
So, to reiterate, for all future recommendations, just make sure that they don't exceed the vicinity of 250 pages or so to possibly make the cut for a Valancourt reprint. It's the least we can do to take the stress (if any) off of constant work.
