For me, the problem wasn't so much finding the foods but keeping track of them. Some books, usually French and German, had a lot of food items. The English just have tea and give few details. I could actually have completed the challenge with 2 of the French books I read. The Japanese and Vietnamese authors also provided more detailed descriptions of meals.
My favorite was the Forsyte Saga -- 3 volumes, and Galsworthy spends pages on a dinner party and only mentions "the mutton!" Or their meal in a restaurant as "gravified brown masses."
It was also difficult keeping track of foods in audiobooks, especially since I do a lot of listening while driving.
