Thea and Gavin’s marriage fractures horribly when he realizes (and she confirms) that she’d faked her orgasms through their entire marriage. He feels hurt and she resents his reaction where he started sleeping in their guest room. At the beginning of the story, what was your understanding of Gavin’s reaction? Thea’s? What was your opinion of both of their points of view at the time?

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I felt sad for both of them. The circumstances of their hurried marriage and his concentration on his sports career put them in a tough spot.
When he learned the truth about her "faking" it, he should have asked her how he could change his technique (for lack of a better word), and she should have told him what worked for her. imho.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments It was a marriage built on lies. It seems to me that they started out in love. Gavin and Thea were happy about the pregnancy, but once they were married, Gavin focused on his career, and Thea worried because she didn't feel accepted in his group.

Most newlyweds discuss what works and don't work in bed. It sounds like Gavin and Thea didn't talk about sex and then acted childish and impetuous when the lies came to light.

I believe the pregnancy and the birth of the twins sidetracked and derailed the intimacy aspect of Gavin and Thea’s relationship. They hadn’t known each other that long before they married and normally that honeymoon period is where they’d get to focus on each other exclusively. They ended up going in separate directions, not deliberately.

By the time the revelation about the orgasm happened, they’d lost their trust in one another and had no healthy communications to manage the fallout. They went to their respective corners and the fight was on.

He’s hurt because he was embarrassed and felt betrayed. She’s angry because of his reaction (moving to the guest room) and was already feeling neglected and invisible.

It felt like a mess.
