No worries! GR has me locked out of creating new threads at the moment. Not sure how long that lasts. I'll get you set up as soon as I can.

Catsalive, Shelly and Sally906 your threads are up. Barbara - I'm post restricted at the moment (can only create 3 new threads an hour), but will be back to create your thread later.
I'd like to play with a partner, please. (Hopefully someone will sign-up asking for a partner real soon :)

No one has so far but I could. Let's give it a day or so to see if we have any other relay people!

I don't mind waiting 3 or 4 days, but hopefully a relay partner will come along soon. Thank you.

I have another relay person for you! Setting up your thread in just a bit.

Okay Lanelle and Ariel (relay team), Shan ~A~ and Cindy III (solos) - your threads are all set. Have fun!

Yay! Thank you. Although it would have been great to be your partner :)

Hi PrinzessBookDragon - this challenge is on-going until interest wanes, so possibly more than a year. At the moment we don't have any other people looking for relay partners. I will send a message out looking for more relay people and hopefully we will find someone!
Update: I can't send another broadcast until tomorrow because I already sent one this morning about the March Group Read. But we'll find you someone for sure.

Jackie and Michelle's Empty Nest - your threads are up. I don't have time to link them right now (at work) but will get to as soon as I can.
Marathon background: (view spoiler)[In 490 BC the Persians landed at Marathon in preparation for an attack on Athens. Legend has it that a professional runner-messenger named Pheidippides ran from Marathon to Sparta to seek help for the Athenians. He covered about 240 km (150 mi) in two days, and then ran back – and THEN ran another 40 km (25 mi) to the battlefield and back to Athens to announce the Greek victory over Persia in the Battle of Marathon.
The marathon was not an Olympic event until the first modern Olympic Games of 1896 held in Athens. Olympic marathons were around 40km (25 miles), which is approximately the distance between Marathon and Athens. In 1908, the organizers of the London Olympic Games had planned to set a 26-mile course from Windsor Castle to the entrance of the White City Stadium. But Queen Alexandra requested that the race begin on the lawn of Windsor Castle, allowing the royal children to watch from their nursery. The race was then scheduled to end in front of the royal box at the Olympic Stadium at the time. This added 385 yards to the race length. This 26.2 mile race length was then standardized in 1921.
Women have not always been allowed to run the marathon. The most famous woman trail blazer is Kathrine Switzer, who ran incognito in the April 1967 Boston Marathon – until she was identified as a woman and assaulted by race organizers (see black and white photo below). Her trainer and boyfriend fought off the attack, allowing her to finish the course as the first officially registered woman at Boston.
Current marathon records are 2:01:04 (4:37.2 min/mile pace) for men and 2:14:04 (5:06.8 min/mile pace) for women. (hide spoiler)]
This interactive challenge can be completed either solo or as a two-person team relay. Each participant (solo or relay team) will have their own thread for reporting.
HOW TO PLAY:
1. Sign up as a solo participant or as a relay team. Name your relay teammate if you have one. If you don't have a teammate we will pair you with someone else who wants to do the relay event. Please do not sign up for a relay team unless you are committed to completing this challenge so that we don't have stranded runners on the course! You will be assigned a thread for yourself or your team. You may begin the challenge as soon as your thread is posted.
2. Choose which marathon you want to run. Relay teammates must run the same race together.
3. Complete your training. You will roll a die three times during the training phase to discover what training "hiccups" happen along the way.
4. Run your chosen race. You will roll a die once to discover what race day glitch comes up.
You will be prompted along the way with required tasks to complete your training and event. Once you complete a task, post in your thread as follows:
Race chosen/Training task:
Book:
Author:
Date Read:
How it fits:
General Rules:
No page limit unless specified for specific training runs or tune-up races.
Rereads allowed.
For spell outs, you may use the author's first or last initial or the first letter of the book's title (you may opt to ignore a, an and the in a title).
Have fun!
