Anita Pomerantz | 9280 comments Recap of special rolls:

If you roll:

1-1: The current leader must move back 3 spaces on their game board and read the book where they have landed next.

Any combination totaling 7: You move 7 spaces and stay on that space, but you may read the book you land on OR one book forward or one book back - - your choice.

6-6: Don't like the book you will land on? You may roll again.

3-1: You get to take pick someone's next move on the board. The admins will use random.org to decide who will be moved. You get to decide which book they must move to next on their game board - - backward or forward -- within a 15 book radius. So you can move your opponent up to 15 spaces back or up to 15 spaces forward to the book of your choosing. Should you be reluctant to move another player ,or if you do not respond to an administrator's request to designate the move, random.org will move the player - odd rolls will move the player backward and even rolls will move the player forward.

2-1: You may use up to 3 of your participation points to move yourself ahead up to 3 spaces.

6-5: You must read a book that's on someone else's board and NOT on your own before you may roll again. (extra note here: you may read the book you land on first and then read the other person's book, or vice-versa. So two books must be completed before you re-roll).

4-4: Receive 4 participation points for the next book you read/review.

2-3 Get an extra "swap" that you may use anytime during the game.

6-4 Earn a surprise advantage to use anytime during the game

Jen K 6-4
Booknblues 2-3
KateNZ 2-1

Cheryl 4-4

Jen K, your special advantage is you may leapfrog the three people immediately in front of you AFTER you move your 10 spaces and read the book there.

Amy | 12909 comments Was just looking at the recap of the rules. I have rolled to add up to 7 twice! Do I still have the chance to use it on this roll? I mean I still don't have the book. Can I choose one up or down for a 6-1?

Yes you may since you haven't rolled again since you rolled the 7. Feel free to adjust one up or down.

They will be there whenever you arrive.

You might want to race through Baggage Car given it only has creepy CGI Tom who is linked to Joanne via cords as he fizzles out of being if disconnected.

Good for Gnarly! Baggage Car might need to do a buddy read - right Amy?

message 17: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12909 comments OK, let it be known that I am moving from number 25 Attribution, to Number 26, Tracey Flick Can’t Win, by Tom Perrotta. Which I own!

Good for you! FYI you don't actually move to #26, just read the book at #26 instead. Note it for Anita at the bottom of your tracking thread.

I had a 7 my first roll though opted to stick with book landed on. But you can see how I tracked my choice on my tracking comment.

message 19: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12909 comments I don't really do cats either you know. A book about this fiend? Come on really! Gnarly should be content with her pizza crumbs and puzzle pieces and be lucky I have enough respect for our dear friends riding the train who would care for such a thing, that I haven't thrown her out the window. We are developing mutual toleration, but little more.

message 20: by Doughgirl5562 (new)

Doughgirl5562 | 958 comments I have a question from the Caboose :-) I have been delayed in starting ... mainly because I can't find the book that I landed on - even though I KNOW that I have it (and I had plenty of other things to distract me). So I want to use one of my swaps, but need to know if I can just swap for another book that is already on my list ... or does it have to be a book that isn't on my list yet? I do know that it has to be the same length or longer.

message 21: by NancyJ (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11060 comments It can be either one on your current list or any another book of equal or greater length. This question came up on the old thread.

Yes, what Nancy said is correct. You may swap for any book you want so long as it meets the length requirements. Just please note you are using a swap somewhere on your tracking.

message 33: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12909 comments OK - I am getting heated in the baggage car. I have Tracy Flick Can't Win, even though I am lately having trouble getting through my books. And what happens? Attribution arrives both in the mail and at the library! What is a girl to do?

I am reading When Stars Go Dark, which is the Fall Flurries Candle for me, and has been high on my priority list. And I like Paula MacLain. I just can't get through this book. Island of missing trees was like that too. At this rate, I will be the last to get myself across the board. The Porters will wave to me as they pass me by.... You would think being on Book Four and only by end of January would have felt like an accomplishment. At least Joiy's Magic Hermoine Trunk of Endless Entertainment is with me, right? Can someone just remove the damn cat? She is beginning to think I am furniture.

Amy, you are definitely NOT the last. I'm in the baggage car as well (on book # 3 ... or at least on that spot). Have just picked up the book at the library, but I have a couple of others to read first for my F2F book clubs. I may be here for a while.

You can use a SWAP for that. You can substitute a different book. It has to be at least as long as the one you're dropping. It can be a book already on your list, or one that isn't. You can use 2 swaps per gameboard.

Ideally you'll realize you hate it right away, before wasting too much time on it. When possible, I like to sample books long before reading them. You can get free samples for many ebooks, and a 5 minute sample of almost any audio.

message 44: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15500 comments @Amy - great news!

My sister has donated a supply of Meowy Wowwy, her handmade little cat nip pillow toys, to the Baggage Car for Gnarly! Guaranteed to mellow Gnarly out and have her blissfully high and sleeping it off!

Note to CGI Tom - due to strength of the 'nip, only dole out one at a time, and store suppliy in a secure locked trunk that is Gnarly proof.

(P.S. These really exist. My sister makes and sells them (for $1 each) from cute cotton fabric using really good catnip that she buys in bulk; measure about 2 " square. Cats go nuts over them! It's hilarious - she's sent photos and videos. A colleague of mine dubbed them Meowy Wowwies after his cats were gifted a couple -- referencing the 'really good shit' some of us enjoyed in the 60s/70s - Maui Wowwy pot. @Amy - if Gnarly pesters you again, just have CGI Tom toss her a fresh one)

message 45: by Amy (new)
