I didn't really care much for the Frankenstein story in the anthology. I found it very slow and I didn't like how the story was told through a story in a story essentially.
The Frankenstein story didn't feel scary and I basically powered through the story because of Junji Ito's art and the promise of other chilling tales.
I definitely liked the other stories in this book better but they suffered from the same problem as Uzumaki which I also just read and that Junji Ito sets anthology styled tales as continuing stories but mostly without properly referencing past characters or events. I think they would just read better as short stories independent of each other. I suppose having the same creepy town is cool, but the same character? It ruins the immersion for me sadly.
Sorry I'm writing this on mobile again so I cannot link the other book right now. I'll try to remember to come back, assuming Andrea doesn't beat me to it!

I am a fan of horror comics and anime so I enjoyed this collection. I also really enjoy classics being turned into manga art so that was a plus for me as well.
I would love to see some more horror genre in our reading lists! And if anyone has any suggestions for me I am open ears :D

This Uzumaki?

I love classics as comics, because it enables me to get through stories I wouldn't otherwise reading... especially the long ones and ones like Frankenstein that are genres I don't read in prose! I particularly enjoy the Manga Classics line, some of which (like the Shakespeare ones) include all the original text.

I'll keep the horror preference in mind! I do try to ensure there's a variety of genres/styles/levels each month to try to hit the wide spectrum of content available in the format.
