From Kindle app to Kindle reader

Perhaps it might be better to get a bit of dark chocolate and some good wine first, as this might get kind of long, knowing me as well as I do. *s* Also, my advance apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know. No offense is intended.
Anyway, if you're running out of space, have you considered increasing the memory on your tablet? I've bought several Fire tablets over the years, and had one I mostly used for reading, and small enough I could fairly easily take it with me when I was out and about, so I could read when I was having to wait for something (like in a looooong line at Costco). Only I reached the point where I was out of memory, i.e., storage space on that Fire.
As I'm sure you know, when you send a book to your tablet, whether you manually send it there through AMZ, or you've set AMZ up so that your purchases are automatically sent to Android #3 (hereinafter A3), a copy of that book is "physically" stored on the A3, which is what reduces the available A3 memory with each book. My solution was to buy a microSD card to increase the memory enough I wasn't likely to run out.
I found videos online to show me how to do the "installation" of the card myself. Nope! No way, no how. I just took all of my tablets to my local Microcenter (not truly local, at 30-minute drive from my house), asked their advice on what was the largest amount of memory I could install on each device, and bought the cards. The gentleman who then installed all 5 cards was kind enough not to charge me for the installation. (Sometimes being beyond old works! *s*) Whatever your local equivalent of Microcenter might be, I urge you to try that before buying a "plain Kindle."
The thing is, buying a Kindle means nothing more than that you have a device with the "Kindle app" already installed and you can read ebooks with it...once they're downloaded to that device. There is nothing automatic about getting books to your device. If you want all the books on your A3 on your "new Kindle," you'll have to move them there yourself. And by that I mean going into the AMZ content and devices section, opening up the content with all your AMZ books, and then using the one-by-one system (the "deliver/remove" option to the right of each book) or the "multiple move" (my words) by using the check boxes to the left of each thumbnail. When you click one or more then multiple options show up at the top of the page.
With regard to not being able to send "ReadEra" books to Kindle, that may simply be because you've downloaded them in a format that's incompatible with the Kindle app. You used to be able to send books in "mobi" format to whatever device you're reading on, and they would then show up as "Docs" rather than "Books" when you look at them in AMZ. Fortunately, "Books" and "Docs" now show up together to my understanding on the latest Kindle app, rather than having to move back and forth between the two categories.
The current "format" though is "epub". If your ReadEra books aren't in epub, then I doubt AMZ will "accept" them.
With respect to books showing up or not, each device registered with AMZ has a separate email address. So A3 might be yourname_## AT kindle DOT com, with ## being two numbers. Your A2 would be the same format, but with a different number. In my experience, a "share to Kindle" option usually means you supply an email address for the particular Kindle device. I'm frankly not sure how it would be possible to send a book to your A3 email address and have it also show up on the A2 device, unless you use the same email address for both. (Check under Preferences at AMZ, and "Personal Document Settings")
Bottom line (and yes I can hear the sigh of relief if you made it this far, without doing a DNF):
1. Your A3 books will not automatically be sent to your new Kindle. You have to do that yourself.
2. Removing the Kindle app on your A3 device does absolutely nothing to increase storage, because all the books are still there, you just wouldn't be able to read them any more. You have to delete the books themselves from A3.
3. New knowledge for me! If you go to the Devices option, pick A3, out to the right there's a "more" option, click that and one of the choices is to look at the content. Click that and all the books (AMZ purchases) show up, in the same format as if you were looking at every AMZ book you've purchased. BUT...the deliver/remove choice out to the right takes the book off your device, but doesn't delete it from your AMZ account. If you click multiple boxes and select the "delete" option above, as the pop-up warning tells you, you're permanently deleting the book from the AMZ account, not from the device.
Okay, though I'm 93.77% retired, I still have to do some Typing For Dollars today. Hope this helps.
Just my USD .02.

that's because the OP is likely looking at All which shows all the books/docs on the account and not Downloaded which shows only the books/docs physically on the device
the simplest thing for the OP to do, is to Remove, NOT Delete, books from the Kindle app(s) and free up space that way. There is usually no need to keep all books on the device.
and you are correct about the Docs (books not from Amazon) - there is no way other than sideloading to get mobi files on a Kindle. All of the send to Kindle methods now use epub instead of mobi

Thank you both for taking the time to reply to my post, and for your valuable information!
Here is some background information regarding my digital books. I buy books from AMZ and I also download books from Netgalley and Edelweiss. Furthermore I download books from other sources as there are lots of free e-books out there (e.g. from the Dutch National Library). I started buying digital books since my eyesight became so bad I often cannot read fine prints anymore. I still own a couple of thousand books in print but my aim is to replace all my ‘classics’ with digital copies.
99% of my digital books are in epub format. The other 1% are pdf’s.
I use ReadEra because my tablet is an Android tablet and until recently it was almost impossible to download books on an Android device. With ReadEra it works perfect. In fact, I like the ReadEra app better than the Kindle app. Of course I cannot read Kindle books with ReadEra but having two apps is not the problem.
1. Having a document on my A2 and A3 account. I took a peek this afternoon and somehow I cannot find any documents anymore that are on both. I checked the boxes for ‘deliver to device’ for several books yesterday but probably, after synchronizing, they are now on A2 or A3. The question still remains why, because I use of course different mail addresses. When I bought A3, somehow Kindle generated a new mail address for it, and I use that as ‘standard device’. Well, as long as I can read them with the app I think it’s easier not to worry about that. The only thing is that with A2 I do not have the possibility to ‘check content on device’. I have to do that by hand.
2. I’ve checked and the books I download from Edelweiss are also always on my A2. I will change the email address for EW books to my A3. This still doesn’t explain point 1.
3. Increasing the memory: I have an extra 16 Gb card in my tablet, and I use it for copies of my books. But come to think of it, and this is thanks to you two: I think it would be good to move some older books (or maybe a certain category, such as classics) to the card to free up space. Removing them from my A3 is also a possibility of course. I can always put them back from AMZ if I want to read them. The thing with books is, you want to see them (just as in my numerous book cases). Luckily I have an Excel file with all my digital books listed, and where I can find them now (Kindle or ReadEra). I could make a third category ‘not on device now’ or something like that.
4. Many thanks for pointing out that removing the Kindle app will not remove the books. And also for pointing out how I could, if I indeed decide to buy a Kindle, move my books to that device.
All in all, I think that for now I’m going to do the following: move books to the SD card to free up space. See which books I can delete from the device but keep them with AMZ. And extend my Excel file with an extra column to note which books are not on the device.
My husband pointed out that the Kindle is much smaller than my tablet (which is 10 inch). He is worried that I will have a problem because I need the font size to be rather large. A large font size on a small screen doesn’t make for easy reading.
I’m very happy I decided to reach out, and even more happy to find people who were willing to help me with this.
Happy reading!

The Scribe might suit you: Introducing Kindle Scribe (16 GB), the first Kindle for reading and writing, with a 10.2” 300 ppi Paperwhite display
if all your devices/apps are registered to the same Amazon account (forget about the emails in this situation), all the Books (Amazon purchases) and Docs (epubs and pdfs) will be available for download to all the devices/apps. What you do is remove an Filters and make sure you're looking at All/Cloud and not Downloaded/On Device and you will seew the books/docs.
Having a document on my A2 and A3 account
this is confusing, do you have each app on a separate Amazon account?

#CBRetriever: this Kindle Scribe looks fabulous but it's very expensive - and currently sold out. I will keep an eye on this though!
"Having a document on my A2 and A3 account"
The strangest thing is that both accounts are on the same device. I even have the first Android Device still but I never send anything there of course because I do not have that device anymore. Numbers 2 and 3 are actually on the same device. What would happen if I deregistered A2?
For now, I'm happy with all replies and I will start organizing my books/documents again, beginning with freeing up space by moving books/documents to the SD card.
Again: thank you all for helping me!

Since most books are also on Kindle for PC (my laptop) I guess that's the reason that I can read all books, no matter what it says about the location. Whispersync is on.
When I open 'my documents' on my tablet, I cannot find the Kindle-titles. So apparently it has no use to temporarily remove Kindle-books because they are not there anyway. I will look further into this.
I'm going to write an email to the help centre. Finally found a form in the help section on my tablet.
For now, enough puzzling. I'm going to read my book ;-)
Here it is: I own a Samsung Galaxy tablet with the Kindle app on it. I've been reading books on this table for a few years now. It is my '3rd Android device'. My old Galaxy, which I don't use anymore, is my '2nd Android device'.
The problem is that I also download books from other sources. And now my table is already 74% full and I cannot extend the memory.
I recently discovered it is possible to send my 'other' books, which I did not buy on Amazon, to my Kindle app.
So, I set out to send those books to my Kindle app (with the option 'share to Kindle')
Strangely enough, some of those books end up on my 2nd device, and some on my 3rd device, which is actually the same apparently because I can read them both. The trouble is furthermore that I keep getting error messages that a title cannot be downloaded, but it still appears in my app and I can read it fine.
So, I thought it would be a good idea to buy a separate Kindle ereader. My questions are:
1. When I buy a Kindle ereader, will it automatically update itself with all my Kindle books?
2. Would it be safe to then delete the Kindle app from my tablet so I can free up more space?
I need the space because I also use ReadEra (a great app, much better than the Kindle by the way) but I cannot seem to send books I downloaded with ReadEra to Kindle.
This way, I would have more space on my tablet and hopefully I can go on and buy lots of books for Kindle in the future.
I hope there's someone here who can help me, or point me in the right direction. It's impossible to get help from Amazon because their help page does not have the possibility to ask these questions. You cannot chat with a real live person ;-(
I would be very grateful!!
