The Kay Scarpetta series is coming to Amazon Prime Video. Nicole Kidman will star as Scarpetta and Jamie Lee Curtis will have the role of her sister Dorothy. Rumor is the project is already approved for two eight-episode seasons already.

Wow, it's been a long time since I read the first few books in that series. I'll have to check it out.

I can't wait to check it out. I've read all the books in this series except for the newest one. I have to wait for my library to re-open from the hurricane, still no time frame for when that will be.

I love this series. I continued to read it from the beginning, even though I'm usually one or two years behind the release dates.

I read the first few books many years ago and will definitely watch the TV series.

This is exciting. I like seeing high profile Hollywood actresses bringing these kinds of projects to life.

Ugh. The only forensic pathologist I want to see running after serial killers with her own gun is Dana Scully.

I think I read through book 12 or so then lost interest in the series. It will be a great project for Amazon Prima and Nicole Kidman is a fantastic actress and will be great as Kay Scarpetta.

I agree, Anita. This is one I have high hopes for, even though I too stalled in the book series.

Okay, I watched the first two episodes of The Rookie. Just what I needed…another series! Kinda hooked.

I'm hooked on The Rookie too. I really like the blend of serious and comedy.

Oh I just don’t understand. Except Curtis must own the rights and wants screen time. She is playing Dorothy, Lucy’s mother and is basically a non character. Plus she was a terrible person and that is why Scarpetta basically raised Lucy. Unless I am remembering this completely wrong. Which could be.

Well, they’ve been know to make changes for screen. And, if they give her more on air time, that would be an interesting role to play.

Streaming offers great actresses that can't get jobs in blockbuster movies terrific projects that feature mature women. I'm all for that.

It doesn't have anything to do with screen time. If I interpreted Cornwall's interview correctly, she would only give rights to her books to Jamie Lee Curtis. She trusts her with the project. Curtis has been a fan for years.

I agree Lynn. It drives me crazy when they age a 30 something actress to play a 50+ role instead of hiring a more age appropriate actress for the part.

That's starting to change a little bit mostly because actresses that have had some success are starting to take control of their own careers by producing their own projects.

How exciting! It has been a few years since I read one of the books in the series, but I loved them and look forward to the series.

This was a favorite series of mine back in the day, but then after a while the books kind of lost their spark. I am looking forward to the show - love JLC!

So some time between 2000 and 2005 the Baton Rouge area suffered greatly from a straight up serial killer. A terrifying period of time. We we nervous even though we lived about an hour away from BR. Cornwall came down to the area with her own bit of profiling and was totally ignored by LE, especially the US Attorney. Turns out she was spot on. Almost totally. For example she was the only one who said straight off that he was a black man. Totally ignored. So they finally arrested someone. Fit her profile. So about I’m at a BR crawfish boil with most of the area Feds and I’m telling a bunch a people about how in her next book, Black Fly, she totally destroyed her USatorney character. I get all of these people starting to give me the shut up signals. Turns out he’s right behind me listening. I love that book, part of it is set in one of my favorite places on Earth, The Blind River and the Blind River Swamp. Or maybe just the Blind River. I’m old can’t remember so well. Pretty sure there is mention of the swamp.

That’s a great story, Maureen! I recently watched a true crime TV series on the Baton Rouge serial killers (if I recall, there were two of them). Didn’t know about the Cromwell aspect.

Derrick Todd Lee was the one I was thinking of, but yeah, I forgot Baton Rouge sure did produce some stone cold killers including one of the DC snipers John Allen Muhammad.

He was from Baton Rouge???

Great story Maureen. I love when people say murder mysteries are too far fetched then the author tells about the actual crime. Some people still believe the author is lying.
