Barbara | 349 comments I've been hearing recently about a new series CBS is planning based on Doctor Watson, set a short time after Holmes dies. Watson would be dealing with Moriarty as an antagonist

J. Rubino (jrubino) | 307 comments The "featuring a modern version" confused me. It wasn't clear whether this will be a period piece or a modern adaptation, similar to Sweeney's "Elementary."

Clémence Scheppler | 1 comments Which modern version do you talk about ? The BBC one ?

J. Rubino (jrubino) | 307 comments This is from the article Barbara linked "“A medical show with a strong investigative spine, featuring a modern version of one of history’s greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to addressing the greatest mystery of all: illness, and the ways it disrupts our lives.”

Apparently one of the people developing it is Craig Sweeney who had been one of the writers of "Elementary."

Outlander | 183 comments It's such a pity the BBC "The Murder Rooms, Dr Bell and Mr Doyle" was not continued, it was the best Holmesian on screen creation since the Granada series with Jeremy Brett.

Barbara | 349 comments Apparently this has been filming in Vancouver (even tho the location of the show is in Pittsburgh) and they plan to air it starting early '25. Morris Chestnut plays Doctor John Watson at something like the Holmes Clinic. There is a Mary Watson and a Shinwell Johnson.

The little I can find online about this is sketchy, Present day series, a year after the death of Sherlock Holmes it's Dr J H Watson vs Moriarty in an American hospital - doesn't sound promising.

Barbara | 349 comments It is scheduled to debut on Jan 25. The series was developed by Craig Sweeny who was the executive producer of "Elementary" and wrote several episodes. There will be characters named Shinwell Johnson and Mary Morstan.

You can name a character Watson but that doesn't make him Watson.

Barbara | 349 comments I watched part of an episode. Watson works at a clinic that deals in rare disorders and has a young team who try to diagnose puzzling issues. For me, it played out just like an episode of "House" except with a different cast and different names. Nothing at all Sherlockian about it.

J. Rubino (jrubino) | 307 comments I also watched an episode - I think the comparison to the program House is a good one. A decent forensic medical drama, just nothing Sherlockian.
