However, Way, WAY back when (we're talking a few hundred years now) there was a little blip in the perfect genealogy on my mum's side. An Irish robber baron came across the water and raped and pillaged his way across Scotland. My many-times great grandmother was one of his victims. Now while I can't of course condone such behaviour, I have to be at least a tiny bit glad that he did, or I wouldn't be around to tell you about it, lol.
So, book I just read is set in Ireland in a castle (like the Baron would also have had a castle). Works for me for the prompt, lol.

My grandfather traced back our family for about 700 years. He spent most of his life working on it. so many great stories there, lol.

My maternal grandfather did also. I have picked up his habit, although I haven't been quite as successful.
He uncovered a LOVELY story about how one of our ancestors was SCALPED by a Native American while she walked to get water! Wild stories!

On the plus side, both my grandfather and his cousin were extremely famous in their respective fields (geology and computer science respectively), and I have actually come across mention of 'Uncle Alick' in books I've read (he often pops up in books about Alan Turing), so that will also be an easy prompt to hit :)
