Cheryl (cherylllr) I'm sure we've all struggled with individual books, but are there any popular and/or acclaimed authors who you want to read, but just can't get into? Any genre.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Personally, the only Le Guin I have been able to enjoy is The Word for World Is Forest. And I have not yet found anything by Diana Wynne Jones that made me want to read more by her. But I feel like I 'should' like them both. Not sure why I don't, tbh, but I just don't. Sorry.

I recently read a book of her short stories, most of which I thought were pretty good. The Wind's Twelve Quarters

Heather(Gibby) (heather-gibby) | 469 comments For me it is Virginia Woolf She is my sisters favorite author so I have tried really hard to like her, but I just find it so boring

Cheryl (cherylllr) Yeah, I've not been able to read Woolf myself. But then, I haven't really tried very hard, because I'm intimidated before I start!

Short stories might help me get into Le Guin, thanks Glynn!

Pat of Rocks | 70 comments Ursula K. Le Guin and Octavia Butler. Both have been so prolific and come highly recommended...but there is just something intimidating about figuring out where to start with their works, so I have yet to even try.

Dennis | 4 comments I just read Kindred, my first book by Octavia Butler. Five stars and I'll definitely read more.

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'm not ready to read more Octavia E. Butler, but I did 'enjoy' Fledgling and yes Kindred.

Steven (politicoprof) | 112 comments Loved Butler's Kindred, and liked her Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents. I know lots of people liked it, but I couldn't get into The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August.

Lizz Taylor | 218 comments Eddies in the Space-Time Continuum - J.M. Hushour is one I just had such a hard time getting into and through. By the end I was past caring about any of the characters. It was also very long clocking in at 823 pages. Each reset I thought maybe this will be better than the last reset but it was just different and more confusing.

*note: I usually love "Groundhog Day" types of books.
