The package turns out to be a young girl, Joey, who is not only hostile but is almost as formidable as Evan. Even he was unprepared for her to be the object of Jack’s message. Why was he unwilling to even consider keeping her close?

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Evan thought Jack wanted him to get Joey to safety and out of Van Sciver's reach. I think Evan believed that he was the major target, and they would go after him first before searching for Joey. He probably thought she was safer if she wasn't hanging with him.

Susan (cruelshoes) | 158 comments I don't think Evan knows how to be close to anyone and that is why he is keeping his distance from Joey. Also perhaps a tad jealous that Jack had another one he was training?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree Robin. It wouldn't be unusual for Evan to help Jack relocate a human asset. In this case, he didn't want to put Joey in danger as Evan searched for Van Sciver. He felt he was doing his best for Joey.

Susan, I don't think Evan was jealous. Jack trained a lot of people in the Orphan program.
