Joey sort of runs away, meeting up with Connor, the boy on the skateboard she met near the safe house. Unfortunately, he turns out to be a predator but Joey handles him and his friend easily. What about this incident was so liberating for her?

She has probably always had someone watching her constantly. First she was under Van Sciver. Then Jack took over the duty of watcher. Now Evan was doing it. Joey's a teenager and doesn't want an adult watching her every move, especially when it comes to a cute guy. It was nice that she could handle herself in this situation.

I think Joey got validation that she could take care of herself and not need anyone to help out. At least not in this situation
