Pam | 498 comments This was my first Georgette Heyer, and I am sold! I've already read another one, in fact.

I realized a few months ago that I had somehow combined her and another historical romance author in my head, thinking I had tried them both when really I had only tried the other author, so I was determined to fix that this year. Seemed like the perfect way to honor this month's England tag.

I wasn't fully invested until Hugo arrived on the scene, but he quickly became an all-time favorite character -- and quite possibly the first time I've ever found myself truly admiring a Regency romance hero.

The ending got just a little too slapstick for me, and I was surprised by how little romance there actually was, but Hugo is the best and worth the read all on his own. I think it was a good starting place for a new Heyer reader, even though I liked the next one I read (Frederica) even more.

Theresa | 15524 comments Hugo is just marvelous.

And I am beyond thrilled to hear you liked my favorite, Frederica, even more.

I loved it. Thanks again for the rec! There were so many to choose from, it was hard to pick a starting point
