Pat Cody | 160 comments I found this to be a fast, easy read, written well enough to enjoy, but not well enough to give it more than a 3 1/2 rating. Both romances seemed more convenient than convincing, and bad guy Quinnie was off-stage too much to be tensely fearful. If this is a series beginning, I might read the next one--or not.

Diane | 4 comments I agree. The book started off strong, but ultimately the ending (and the romances) felt a bit contrived.

Rubena | 8 comments I agree with Pat in that it was an easy read and I didn't have to think too much. I'd just finished The Strings of Murder where I had no idea who the murderer was so I needed something light.

I felt the book was more like the set up for a series where you get the background and backstory for the characters and that's why the plot was needed (don't know if that makes sense). But I enjoyed it and will probably read the next book to see if Forrester and company can make it in the PI business without so much help from his police friends.

Chris (chrissieml) | 152 comments A competantly written book from an experienced auther I've never tried before.
The real name/nickname bit was obvious - not as if it was Queenie, was it? :)
I give it an Okay.

Shell (whodoneit) | 24 comments I liked the start of this book and the idea of Matt Forrester carrying on his Dad's business. However, I just couldn't get along with it after a while. The characters don't work, the romances were so cheesy and the plot was poor in parts. I have read another by this author and felt the same about it. By the end I was glad to finish it and won't be reading any more in the series. The author always gets huge amounts of praise for each book, but I'm not sure why.

Jan | 7 comments I agree that I'm not in such a hurry to read the next one. Cheesy romance going on. For someone going into the the surveillance business as well as being a past detective Forrester really wasn't quite on the ball !
