Ok I just got it. I have to finish a book but I’ll start this on the weekend for sure. I haven’t read this author before and this looks good!

Hi John! I’m at just under 50% and cruising. I like the characters, they feel like real teens. I’ve just gotten to the baddie and she sounds eeeeeeevil! Fun!

I am around 29% and loving this story so much! I am just connecting to the small town atmosphere - all the characters in the story. Everything just comes to life on the pages of this book. I can feel what the boys are going through and how they are dealing with (view spoiler)[the mystery of the black stones on the grave they found and finding out their film teacher being in the paper. (hide spoiler)]

Really digging this book!

I have a question John. You captured the feeling of a small town where everyone knows everyone and I love the creepy essence of the spooky happenings within. Did you grow up in a small town?

Thanks! I really wanted to suck people in with the prologue and first chapter. Something about meeting the main characters while they are in the middle of chaos always appealed to me.

So.... Newport is a real town, which happened to be my home town growing up. Everything about the town is real in the book. Even the ski jump is real behind the school. The main cast of characters is based on myself and my best friends at that time in the 90s, and alot of the conversations even really happened between us.

All this made it much easier to make the town feel like a real small town, right down to the politics of school sports and everything.

Wow! That is so cool that you based the story off your town, yourself and your friends! I love that! Then that makes this book extra special for you! :)

I have been flying through this book! Up to around 91% now! This book is so good and creepy! :)

I finished it just a little bit ago as I wanted to see how it all played out. I was satisfied with the ending and loved how all that happened but now I am curious if there will be a sequel, John? There was one small thing at the end that made me wonder. :)

😬. Yes there will be, and in fact it’s my next project after I finish the current novel I’m writing. The sequel is titled Consumed By Evil, and it will answer a lot of the stuff that was left open intentionally. I won’t say too much yet because people here are still reading, but I wanted the book to have a satisfying ending while still leaving some stuff unanswered for the sequel.

the sequel will be out either at the end of this year, or earlier next year. There are many moving parts that could impact its timeline, mostly behind the scenes stuff with publishers I'm negotiating with. I always thought I would self-publish it like the first book, but there has already been some interest in it and I haven't started writing it yet!

I finished a couple of days ago but haven’t had a moment for comments. I liked the characters and how realistic and fully developed they felt, and the coming of age and we’re all in this together feelings. I definitely felt the small town vibe. Liked the feeling of nostalgia. The ending had a good combo of gore and death along with some sadness, and I definitely saw the opening for another book. Well done John!

Almost forgot to jump in on this and I bought it just for this read! I did just finish Hard Magic, highly recommend it, and once my Kindle recharges, I am getting started on this. Hope you all are having a blast in here :0)
